Anyone have a guideline on how to bleed the coolant system on the STR's??
Is there a certain guideline to follow to bleed the coolant system of our STRs from air being trapped in? I know theres the bleeder screw to release the air and also you have to turn the heat on max, but other than that is there something I should know to help make this process of bleeding the air out completely so I won't run into trouble down road after having a new expansion tank replaced? Any help would be appreciated!
Remove S/C bleeder screw. Fill system with coolant/distilled water while paying attention to the open bleeder. When coolant starts coming up the threads of the open bleeder replace screw. Be sure that the bleeder is open on the expansion tank at the same time as fill. Close expansion bleeder.
Start engine and turn up full heat. Run until engine warm keeping an eye on the expansion tank. Let engine cool down. Top up coolant.
Dead simple.
This advice is worth exactly what ya paid for it...

From what searanch was talking about there are 2??? The s/c bleeder which I've never heard of and the expansion tank one which you are correct about! My expansion tank bleeder screw is seeping. Not sure why? Any ideas?
The S/C circuit never seems to need separate bleeding. (Forget it unless you are sure you need more info in which case go hunting in JTIS.)
With the weeping you describe either you figure a fix (gasket? something else?) or I suppose replace the part.

I took the bleeder screw out and looks like there is an o ring at the base of the plastic screw.
on top of the expansion tank - 03+ S Type, for 00 to 02 the bleeder hose is tucked between the master cylinder and valve cover.
you will need to find the bleeder hose by the master cylinder tucked away - it has a plastic cap that screws out. The plastic and hose should have a yellow "alignment" Mark. If it doesn't - before unscrewing draw a mark.
This is to ensure you don't over-tighten that fitting. It is prone to cracking requiring replacement of the entire expansion tank.
Use a flat blade thick screw driver and unscrew carefully until a steady stream of coolant comes out then tighten to the alignment Mark - no further...
Have you serviced your cooling system recently? This would be the only reason to "bleed" the cooling system in this fashion..
