Auto Headlamps stopped working
Any advice on this subject is welcome. My autolamps stopped working, i must turn lights off/on manually. Lights will not turn off in daylight.
My 03 STR has the same issue. Last week a Jag/Land Rover tech inspected her and I learned that the auto headlight sensor is in the mirror facing the road. The sensor on the dash is for the alarm beacon and daylight sensor for the a/c system. I'm going to clean sensor in the mirror with isopropyl alcohol and see what's up. If not the issue may be a relay or faulty mirror sensor?
Caution: I think the sensors in the mirror are for (a) auto-dimming the mirror and (b) rain-sensing (if fitted).
I think the one in the dash is as you say AND for the auto-on lamps.

jagv8, I thought the same. The Jag/Land Rover tech is the regional troubleshooter (drives from dealer to dealer helping to solve difficult diagnostic cases). He pointed out that the sensor on the mirror facing the rear of the car is for auto dimming the mirror (cars headlights shining on the mirror from the rear), the sensor on the mirror facing the road is for the auto-headlights, the sensor on the dash is for alarm beacon and daylight sensor for the a/c. Who knows?

On my 2003 the sensor is on the dash, how do I know?
I was driving to LA in bright sunlight, and noticed that the lights were on, swore to myself and wondered what could be wrong then noticed that the wife had flung a magazine on the dash covering the dome, I pulled it off and voila! problem solved.

My lIghts stopped working and then started working again. And of course stopped again. Is the sensor difficult to change? It appears itmay be a challenge, since it is in the dash. Anyone know the approx cost of sensor and/or relay? Trying to establish budget for repair(s).
