Thanks phd12volt. I have the lights on all of the time problem too.

Two other questions:
1-Is there any info on how to test the sensor?
2-Does anyone have the part number and approx cost of the sensor?

Thanks
Paul.

DIY test: ensure it's in bright light. With stalk in Auto, lamps should be off. If you have satnav then it should adopt day setting. Cover sensor (simulates night). Lamps should be on & satnav (if any) in night setting.

Do you think my mirror autolamp sensor is broken? since headlights stay on, on autolamp switch (shined both lights front and back of mirror to test, stayed on). if it's not the mirror sensor facing the road then where to check the relay? how did you fix the autoheadlight stays on during daytime??

03 S type R, i believe the S type and the STR mirror can be used depending on the number of options (rain/autolamp?) I took the mirror out to check the wires, everything is connected. Shined flashlights both at the same time front and back sensors of the mirror, on autolamp switch, but the headlights were still on. Defective mirror sensors? or...??

You're sensor is combined with the solar sensor on the dash not in the mirror.

I expect it's kaput.

so for the 03 STR i'll just order the "Sunload Sun Light Daylight Solar Sensor OEM 03 - 08" to fix the autolamp and leave the mirror, yeah? It was just confusing since someone on this thread posted that the "regional tech" pointed out the front sensor facing the windshield of the mirror is for autolamp. Guess the year of the car is diff? thks for the dash removal pdf from earlier post too!

Cracked the dash panel (the long dash/piece with the solar in the middle) what is it called? vent, upper trim? ordering that part but dont see on ebay

Up!
I have the exact same problem on a 2000 EU LHD Jag ( so there is no DRL). It's working intermittently, i did a couple of test and apparently when it's not working i can wait or i can plug it and unplug it to make it works.
There is 2 pin for the red LED and 3 pin for the sensor. Also if anybody with electrical skills could help it would be helpful. I can open the sun sensor to check every components with a multimeter. I just need to know how.

The "lights on constantly" when the solar sensor fails is the default programming for this option. Replacing the solar sensor did the trick on my S-type. A word of caution though, the "demister" panel to which the sensor is mounted will most likely be very brittle/fragile by now, so be gentle in removing this piece; replacements for this discontinued panel can be hard to find and very expensive...

Oh so i just have to replace the solar sensor, just the square one or also the round one?
Also where can i get a new solar sensor? Assuming that an old one will have the same problem later.

I laught when i read about the demister panel. Don't worry i already broke it .... twice. First when i removed it a little piece of plastic cracked a bit and then when i wanted to carry it to home, it just shattered into my hand to kiss the ground. It costs 300£ from Jaguarclassicparts. For the moment i used glue to fix it and i let it in 2 pieces. Also i noticed that i have no more plastic noise.

Update :
The car was facing the sun for 2 days (and it's hot where i am 90°F or 32°C) and when i have driven the car i tried the autolamp and it was working properly. Until i came home with AC on. I think that a good amount of heat would temporarily fix it.
