As far as from what I can see looks like you just have to loosen or remove the allen screw at the base of the knob and then should either unscrew or just slide off. I wish I could explain that a little non thats what she said kinda way but thats what it looks like to me.

I have 3 equally spaced holes that may be threaded but there are no allen set screws in them that I can see. I tried ever size one Ihave just in case I'm blind but no luck. There's nothing in there. The knob rotates but independently of the base portion with the three holes. Even if the knob came off I'm pretty sure that the base portion is too thick to slip through the gate.

Is there a special spanner that grabs the three holes and then you unscrew the base?

JTIS is useless. Maybe it's just the version I have but this the most worthless service manual I've ever seen. The navigation is horrible and totaly unintuitive. I couldn't even find a section for the shift linkage.

Is there a decent later other format manual or an aftermarket one?

The knob just rotates but the base stays fixed and I can't budge the base as yet.

Hey wait a minute. Didn't you just get your car like hours ago?
You've already removed the shift knob???

Someone stole the knob I took the car as is and the dealer has one being overnighted to my home so I picked up a goofy hurst 8 ball knob. Beats risking damaging the threads

Btw has anyone moded thier car so quick? Haha

On another note my sport had a nut under the shifter that had to be loosened first.

Default F&*cki!g s($ft k*ob !!!

I'm quitting for the night. When you can't get your shift knob removed it's past quittin' time ...

Besides, my wife came out with a mechanic's helper for me. A rather largish cocktail.

Plenty of time for the sawzall in the morning ...

...I'm speechless - you must be clairvoyant - those were the first two suggestions that came into my head - sawzall & copious quantities of mind altering substances for the results oriented man - perfect combination

Hmmmm the post I just made didn't register. Try a hair dryer warm up the knob wrap a towel around it and twist away some have some sort of thread locker on them the tip of mine has sort of residue at the beginning of the thread

It's worth (more than) what you paid for it.

But it's horrid. Very dated. Bear in mind jag don't use it any more. You can use some (all?) of what they use via GTR (TOPIx) but it costs more.

Alldatadiy may be better? I plan to give it a go..... one day. Maybe. The free trial put me off.

You might be able to order printed workshop mauals but even if you can I bet they're like $1000.

Default This just seems silly but ...

I had a close look. Three holes on the stem but no set/allen screws.
I tried twisting the stem with my fingers but it doesn't budge.
The knob itself rotates though.

I'm pretty sure you HAVE to remove this to get the radio/NAV facia surround off so this was done recently by a stereo unistaller just before I bought the car.

So maybe they left the set screws out?

Is the lower stem supposed to rotate off or just slip off?

If they used loctite then I think I have a mess on my hands.

Very little thread lock goes a looooooooooong way most people use too much. It's intended purpose is to clog threads temporarly seizing the parts together

Only a moron or a lazy SOB would use any locktite in this location.

Like if you lost the set screws and had to get the car out the door ...

More later on this.

No the stem is vase shaped with 3 holes at the top.

But ... it turns out that you don't have to take the knob off to remove that panel!

My mistake so I'm OK for now. But I still have no idea how you would ever get this knob off. I'll ask the dealer next time.

The stock STR knob with the R on top and leather. It's fine with me but I will ask the dealer about this.
