I like the length just not the shifter l knob. I didn't do that to be stylish it was neccesty.

There was no knob on the car and I don't belive in leaving something that expensive/important exposed

I don't think that his case is exactly the same. His car came without any knob and it's unclear to me what was there before he put that temporary knob on the car. I'm looking for the same answers as you. Mine rotates but it doesn't appear to be comming off. I have to admit I didn't rotate it 25 times. It really looks like zero progress after a couple of turns.

The V (or vase) shaped collar has dimples in it to place needle nose pliers. It is simply a lock nut. Some Jaguar knobs (like the one in the R) are designed to mount in a certain direction so the nut will allow it to be locked in a certain direction before bottoming out the thread. That said, you should be able to hold the nut with pliers (use some sort of rubber as a cushion so you don't scratch the chrome) and twist the knob off. You will see the knob separate from the nut as you loosen it. The threads are not reverse or anything so the lefty loosey rule applies. If your knob turns but no gap appears you may have stripped threads. In that case, I'd get another shifter arm / lever and cut the knob off and replace all of it.

So a special spanner with small tips to insert in the holes will loosen it up the locking collar?

I don't know what's going on with mine then? If the knob spins I would expect that the lower lock nut would as well.

No matter for me as I don't need to remove the knob now.

Thanks for the clarification.

My knob was taken before I took delivery of the car. It wasn't hard to overlook it since I'm in a STR and the dealer already sent me a new one
