Battery and Cold Weather
[QUOTE=Jimmy 68;1135672]
With that mileage you shouldn't need the ctek, but with what you've posted you clearly have a fault. Whether it's the aftermarket immobiliser or you got a bad new battery or something else I don't know. These cars are fine generally so it's something specific to yours.
@dcjag64 and Jimmy68, as already mentioned in one of the posts above, get yourselves a CTEK smart charger. It will be the best money you ever spend on your cars and will help to keep them "electrically gremlin" free.
Thanks, but as I stated above, I own a Deltran Battery Tender Plus smart charger already.
I've used it on my idle Mustang, but didn't think I'd need it yet for the Jag, of which I put 350 miles a week on at the least, and the battery is not even two months old...

Perfectly normal. It senses ambient temp.

I am the OP, dcjag64 has the immobiliser, not me, sorry!
Bottom line, the car will rest overnight, I will take a voltage reading tomorrow morning, make note of it, and proceed with the smart charger, and when its done, take another reading. ( Preferably after turning headlights on for 2-3 minutes to rid the surface charge?)
I will see aftermy regular use of the car, during next week, take more voltage readings to see if theres a downward trend in voltage.
In the meantime, find the root of the P0174 code.... A vacuum line?

Jimmy you need to put your vehicle details in your signature, year, engine etc.....
Your P1074 is a vacuum leak which will turn out to be real and not due to a flat battery. I could almost guarantee it. If you have the 3.0 this will help: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ics-faq-52720/
My sig is not up again? Why does it keep disappearing?
Sometimes its there, sometimes not, and I've saved it!
Had left car outside overnight in -3 degree temp. This morning I tested the battery cold, it read just under 12v 11.99v the car started, with an extra 2 seconds crank than usual. I hope the battery is recovering, but I would still like to get it on the Ctek to fully condition and recharge the battery. Thanks for the good advice everyone.

No it's not. After leaving the car sit for more than 24hrs. the battery is virtually flat lined. Measured last night @ 7.88v. My question is, do I put it on a smart charger or buy a new battery? The battery is only 14 mos. old.
clearly something is draining your battery while off... Not good and a new battery will not cure the current drain issue.
Have it now on smart charger for last 4.5 hrs. probably another 6 hrs left. After that, I'll see if it maintains it's charge. If not, then yes, something may be draining the battery or time for a new one.
Update: Car is still on charger now for about 26hrs. Voltage reading is 12.57. This is about 90-95% charged. Last nigh it read 12.44v so it's charging slow, but increasing and not dropping down and back up then down again... So does this mean I don't have something draining the battery? Remember that when I started charging it was at 7.88v, so it had a long way to go. Should I take off the charger? flashing green led indicating at least 80% charged, or do I leave it until I get a fully charged solid green light? which should be around 12.66 - 12.70v ?
Then see if it drains fast. If it does either it's a bad battery so had little actual charge despite the voltage or you've a drain - could be both I suppose.
There are threads about drains with good advice so worth following.

This morning after nearly 40 hrs on the charger the light on charger was a solid green. Check voltage @ 13.5v cold, non-running car. Took off charger and waiting an hour until I check voltage again. I suspect the voltage should drop some, as 13.5v car off is near the voltage of a running car with load and good alternator. If voltage is good at 12.6v - 12.8v then I'll drive it for about 30 mins. The true test will be leaving overnite to see if voltage stays in the 12.6v - 12.8v range.
I'd take that battery to autozone or some place like it and get the battery checked under load after a full charge.
My wife ran hers down the other day trying to start her STR car in -10f. She washed it and it didn't dry all the way then left it out in the cold. I had to take a hair dryer to the TB and dry it out, and charge the battery back up before it would turn over. Fun stuff.
