Default bottom engine protect plate

Had oil and filter changed yesterday on wifes 2005 s-type 4.2 at local dealer and noticed today that bottom plate it is not all the way flush up to the bottom of the frame. Should this be all the way up? Any info would be great. thanks

Possibly some of the attachment points are broken or missing, mine did the same thing.

Mine has (as OE) 9 fasteners (a mix of bolts, screws & nuts) and with that many is not loose. I imagine any that are loose have some of the fasteners missing.

Wow, reminds me of my car when I first bought it. The belly pan, cooling module (bottom most duct) and both fender liners were held together by wood screws, home depot galvanized fasteners and mostly hopes and dreams. My first ride at high speed resulted in sorts of noise as the plastics flapped in the breeze.

Even under the hood, plastic covers and their clips missing all over the place.

The previous owner (idiot) had monkey's working on the car apparently.

Monkeys in the auto shops may have indeed been responsible for your car's situation, but keep in mind that some of these factory fasteners around the engine compartment (especially the plastic ones) are really lousy. Over the years we've owned our S-Type, I have replaced quite a number of the original plastic fasteners with metal bolts and screws. They may require more time to remove when work needs to be done, but they don't break down, crack apart, and fall off like plastic does....

More metal and less plastic on these vehicles is always a good thing....
