Bought a 2007 Jaguar S-Type R but having issues
Hello everyone, I am new also at Jaguarforum.com but had a Jaguar for over 6 years, So I bought a 2007 Jaguar S-type R with 34k miles on it. Its previous owner was bought for a limousine service for transportation.
Now I wanted to try out the speed limit myself, oh boy oh boy its fast but it only went to 120MPH and I know it was used for the chauffeur to not go too fast so Im guessing they put a (sorry don't know the word for it) But its not government speed limit. Anyways, It goes fast and stops at 120 and dont want to blow the engine by accelerating more so until I fix it I wont top it off. Is there a way I can take out the limti off of this and if I send it to the jaguar dealer or somewhere else. How much will it cost. Thanks guys. Ill be postin gup pics in a week with my new jaguar and my old jaguar
Besides the limit, the car runs like a fine girl

Glock, the only way I know of to do what you are after is to get an aftermarket ECU for the car. At that point, the "speed limiter" that is inside of the computer will be removed, allowing the car to only still have the RPM limiter. But, at that point, depending on how you feel, you can even get that number altered. I would not advise doing that as the manufacturer did a lot of research into that number to prevent engine damage.
Another thing to keep in mind is with removing the speed limiter and going faster than the car was initially designed to do, make sure you upgrade the tires to something appropriate. Sure, you can take tires rated for 110 MPH and take them up to 150 mph and probably be fine. But, you are taking your chances. They are not designed to be rotated that fast (results in the tires flexing too much, generating internal heat, leading to rubber failure).

Well Thermo, the car came with 19" Barcelona rims staggered with 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear all wrapped with Falken FK452 rated: Y (meaning 186MPH+), so I know the handling of the speed is not a problem
I don't know Thermo, I think its the Limo service that install it because I know S-type R's go way beyond 120MPH and its potential of this performance is not all out. The RPM's run fine (6,100 RPM). But thanks anyways Thermo Ill still check on that and ill give you a update on it.

I have an awful feeling of foreboding at what you're proposing to do, i.e. remove a speed limiter that has been installed for a reason. If it was a limo or wedding car, it's unlikely it's been driven anywhere near that speed of 120mph. I think the chief merit of the "R" models is their vicious acceleration, which you've already discovered. I'd leave well alone if it were me. The money you save could be spent on petrol. If you can show the car is speed limited, there might be an insurance cost reduction too.

Yes my question is how its limited to 120 since its "supposed" to be 155. And i am not aware of a reflash from the factory to be able to change the top speed limit. The new jags are still 155, and the new xk175 will be 174. Unlimited the xfr did over 200 mph in bonneville with totally stock software other than speed limiter removed

I am guessing the limousine company set a limit which you can install, sort of a what parents do to there teens car for safety, I know the Jaguar R's potential, its like buying a lambo and only hitting 80mph .
I go fast correct and it runs smooth and passes 115 like nothing a BAM, it stops at 120 but the rpm so want to get moving, I just know, I should take it to a technician for this, anyone know in Miami, FL. I have found some and emailed them, ill update it with you guys when this matter is fixed. No one would like this to happen especially on a STR, Im I right?
