Finally got round to replacing the rear discs and pads today.
Only been meaning to do it since I got the car.
I reckon these would be good for a few more years yet though.........NOT!
And I discovered I need a new tyre as well,,,,,,,,,,,,,hmpf..............damn thing looks like the braiding has buckled inside the carcass.
The calipers work as they should thank god.
I had an assistant push the pedal while they were off and you could see the piston move very easily. They wound back easy as well.
All the slider pins were gummed up good and proper, barely moving against the caliper pressure, so there was the main problem.
I don't think the previous owner had the any mechanical knowledge, or at least very little, to cope with a car like this, as he used to put it into an independant for everything, so I think it was more financial restraints that got it into this state, hence why I got it for so little money (£480).
Luckily I can do all the work this car needed.
And I love the trade prices from my suppliers, the new discs and pads only cost me £36.95.
I've fitted Apec discs and pads. Mainly because in my old unit I was an Apec Approved supply and fit centre so I know the product already.
Been using the car as a daily driver for the last 2 weeks or so, filled the tank again last night.
I like to work out the mpg I get from my vehicles, even on the bikes, bit OCD, but who cares.
Mainly stop/start driving in rush hour traffic, sitting around in queues etc,
I am getting 14.3 mpg according to my calculations.
On the way home tonight, I started flicking through the trip meter button.
Car reports my average mpg as...............14.3 mpg.
Not that I really care. I'm just enjoying driving it.
If I was concerned with fuel economy for the amount of miles I drive a car each year, I'd have gone to the SATAN side and bought electric.
Went to do the anti-freeze this morning, no water in the expansion tank!
Can you guess what the culprit was.............................?????
Yup, tank had a small split that opened up under pressure.
Rang David Manners Jaguar for a new one, no chance. They're all on back order because Jag are doing some testing on a new batch .
And we all know what that means, they're weeks possibly months away from being back in stock.
So started ringing round the main dealers, not a carrot anywhere.
But one really helpful tech at the Solihull dealer put me on to a breaker who just happened to have a used one.
Flew across to him on the bike, £35 later and I've got a good replacement expansion tank.
All fitted (what a horrid awkward job), antifreeze done so safe for the winter now.
Then fitted the new FRONT discs and pads as well.
New brakes all round now, another tick off the MOT list.
Happy bunny again, thought I was in for a long wait for an expansion tank......................

I don't think they have the same part numbers.
I did come across one for a LHD, but the jag tech in Solihull said he wasn't sure but was willing to get one in for me to compare mine with.
I would think that it could be used, but then again I'm not sure whether the engine compartment layout is the same in the US as in the UK.
Actually, the more I think about it the more I think it can't be used on a RHD car. Brake booster position and all that stuff. But I could be wrong as always.
Yes the situation with the header tanks could be an issue in the near future for other owners, so if you are of that mind set, grab one as a spare now while you can and leave it on the shelf for when you need it.

I've had the same issue with two separate MOT stations passing the front discs on my Ford and now the Jaguar when they were way past their use by date. I kept one of the Ford discs which is just plain nasty to remind me not to trust MOT testers.
BTW on the expansion tanks, there are Jaguar representatives on here but I don't know who they are? I think the expansion tank availability is one they should take up for us?
