Default Bricked ecu

I purchased a new ecu from jaguar and had a local jaguar service center not a dealer program it for me. When I called to see if it was ready they said that the computer was programmed and the car was running fine but it had a abs fault and a transmission fault and they need more time with the car to figure out what was going on. In other words they wanted more money. I picked the car up and read the codes and all the codes said that the ecu wasn’t programmed right. So I finished where they left off. But then I tried to change out the radio and got a can bus error so I just tried to start all over and I guess you only get three shots at programming now the ecu is bricked and I can do anything with it. And help would be very appreciated. The local dealer is over a hour away and really don’t wanna go in there, after reading that sometimes they won’t fix your mistakes

You need to get your car hooked up to legit Jaguar software and communication device. When programming any modules you need to have a maintainer on the battery - at least 30 - 50amps.

I have a 2003 S-type 3.0 and I do have legit software and account with topix. But I can’t find anything about unlocking this ecu. I should have had to service center to fix it but if I hadn’t taken the car I would have never known what was up here are the codes when I got it home
ABS U2202 B2141 Transmission P0610 Engine B0128 B0831 Now what I am getting 0X1216 and 0X9216

Two questions..

1) Can you tell us why you were changing the PCM in the first place?

2) Did the shop have the ability to do a PMI on the old unit?

They certainly do and has been superceded by both IDS (which shares the same platform as WDS - I had a WDS unit and now IDS) and SDD.

Net, net - if anyone tries to reflash a PCM w/o legit dealer level tools - risk catastrophic failure of the module(s)

You have the old brick that you have to dock to load update files per make and model?

Wow.

I recall having to go to work on the weekend and download all the pertinent files for the Ford and Mazda store I was at at the time here in Kentucky.

We're getting way of topic as far as the OP's post.

We'll save this for a private conversation or another thread.

I'd be fascinated to know what that cost.

JLR is showing the ECU as NLA.

WDS version 42 and IDS version 42 were released simultaneously in 2006 and WDS ended with 43 but IDS continued on in basically the exact format until version 118.5 in 2009.

ALL instructions for WDS can be followed using IDS. SDD will revert to legacy IDS for functions on the older cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to Jaguar training in 1998 for WDS but when IDS was issued in 2006 we did not need to attend IDS training because nothing was really different other than the laptops and VCM.

Simply substitute IDS for WDS and you will be GOLDEN!!!!!!!!!!!

Carry on.

The ecu from a dealer in Texas $1400.00. And yes a little knowledge is very dangerous. Programming this car was a lot different than a cat diesel. And I have no problem admitting I didn’t know what I was doing but if you knew the story of all the times I have been screwed over by mechanics with this car one told me it needed timing chain wanted $3200.00 to do the job. So I put the chains on myself didn’t do anything. That when I sent the ecu to have tested and after all the trouble I sent it to two different places and both places said it was bad.. And I have the VID block file from the original ecm that is were the service center screwed up they told me it would be less money if I installed the new one. Not knowing what they was doing needed the old one and left it in the front seat for them.

And oh my the way the reason the trunk is open is because of the battery charger.. Another thing if it wasn’t for my wife you fell in love with this piece of s%#t I would have sent it to the junk yard where this Ford Jaguar need to be. It might would be worth all of this bs if it was a real Jaguar but it’s a Ford on the inside where all the parts say Ford with a Jaguar and Jaguar’s name on the outside And its a shame Ford will not work on it and the only reason Jaguar does is because they are forced too...
