Default cam position sensors?

Does anyone know exactly where they are located on an 2000 S-type 3.0?

Here are pics of 2003 and up, I assume that the 2000 are the same. The valve covers have to come off to replace.

My engine looks a little different but I think I recall seeing something like that on the drivers side. I think you've given me a good starting point on what I'm looking for. Thanks!

I just got p1388 so I'm just checking to see if the sensor is bad before I attempt any more expensive fixes

I do get a gear box fault every now and then since 05'. To make a long story short, in 05' I parked on a hill without the parking break and shifter would not come out of park. Now me not being aware that the shifter was in place with that cheap plastic clip, pulled a little to hard and broke the shifter. I had the car towed and the shop told me I had to have the whole shifter replaced.

soooo..$500 later, with a new piece in place the shifter was not adjusted correctly (with those two gold nuts and washers where the cable is) and the shifter wouldn't go all the way around the J gate. I didn't realize it at the time because I would hardly ever put the car in 4,3,2. BUT it would physically move to 4,3,2 before the plastic broke.

So I took it back and I was told that it was because I needed a new tranny and they would be more than happy to put one in for me. Needless to say I passed on that option.

Now sometimes after constant shifting those nuts get loose and I have to pull up the console and tighten them back. The problem is getting the nuts on the right thread because for the longest I would have to swing it to 4 then back to drive to put it drive. Now maybe as early as last week I readjusted the nuts so the car actually went in drive as soon as the indicator was lit and I got a gearbox fault and this week I now have a p1388.

My code reader says bank 2 cam position over retarded

Your choice but I'd take the previous posts seriously. Nothing to do with the shifter.

No I was just giving you some background info when the gear box fault started and I just got another one this week. I saw you mentioned the gear box fault and p1388 in the same line so I brought it up that they both just happened recently.

I've read the threads about reflashing so I'm assuming that this is the only way to clear the code or see if there is a real fault correct?

Well, I'm not a tech like Brutal so pay close attention to anything he said. I'd start with the reflash as it's #1 and should be cheap (they reflash the PCM as it also does the tranny).

There's a thread somewhere in which Brutal says to go to a different oil but you'd have to find it - may not even be THIS code - even then I think it was only if the reflash didn't fix it but I don't pay THAT close attention on the engines I don't have LOL

I guess at some point it could actually BE the sensor!

When there's a TSB I tend to go for that first. Kinda cheating really.

Update: I changed the weight of the oil and went to the dealer and got the reflash but the p1388 code still comes back within minutes of clearing the code. The car drives normal, my oil light doesn't come on and I have no visible oil leaking or burning off. IDK what the next step should be. I was kind of hoping that the reflash would alleviate the issue but I guess I'll have to dig deeper...and deeper into my wallet
