Default Can STR have wider rear tires?

Can the STR wear wider rear tires on the stock wheels? I put Mitchlins up front and will replace the rears. Would 295's be the next step wider?

...if you're going to lower the STR I would not recommend it, notwithstanding the fact you may actually lose traction with the tire tending to cup in the center - that tire is going to rub if you lower the car - save your money and get the proper size

This advice is worth exactly what ya paid for it...

maybe just go to a stickier compound like a toyo 888 if you're really looking for traction. Compound is key.

Believe it or not I'm more intrigued with the "wide rear tire look", not that the rears are skinny.

that's cool. I usually dig that too. I have 335's on the back of my vette so the jag tires look tiny. They're the same size as my fronts!

qwiketz, Yea, wide rubber seems to scare away the rice burning hyenas trying to stalk me. I know it may deserve its own thread but how's your STR doing and what did you do? I'm presently at Magnaflow mufflers, K&N filter, with Magnaflows x-pipe to be welded in Tuesday. If you have the same mufflers and x-pipe, did you remove the resonator? If yes, too loud?

What sizes do you have front? And rear?

The vette has 275/35/18's up front and 335/30/18's in back. They're massive!

About the setup of the STR's. Ours are very similar. The only mods to mine right now are magnaflows (stock resonators) and a garbage "cold" air intake. I'd prefer to switch back to the stock airbox with a high flow filter.

I'm currently half way through with lowering the car (front end is done). The rear will be done this afternoon.

Alky injection kit will be installed while the blower is out getting a port job (snakebite).

I'm in the process of pulling the blower to fix a leaky hose underneath. Man, this has got to be the most difficult thing I've had to do on any of my cars yet. I woulnd't wish this one on my enemies!

Let me know about the x pipe. I personally think that the exhaust is a little too quiet for my taste in it's current configuration.

Shoot! I read about your blower cooling line leaking. Sorry to hear about the pain in the hiney it is to access the s/c and line. I'll open up a new thread with Tuesday's x-pipe install. Good job on the H&R springs and looking forward to hear about what your impressions are cause the springs are going on mine after the x-pipe and 2 1/2" pipe to mufflers. I will try without the resonators and let yas know what my thoughts are on noise levels in and out. Great weekend ya all.

If you keep the car stock height, you can actually use a 5mm spacer or so, maybe a bit more to improve the rear stance from just a visual standpoint. The S-Type actually runs decent rubber in the back for a sedan, but tucks it all in the wheel well, you can barely even tell the wheels are staggered unless you look at the car from behind down low...

The S-type will fit a 295/30/18 tire in the rear on an 18x9.5 rear wheel. But it will rub if you lower the car. Ask me how I know...

Happy motoring...

George

Riski, I had a pre-orgasmic moment thinking that blower was for the STR. What the heck is that orange vehicle with the nasty looking v-8 your throwing it on? 1100 cc w/NO2!? Youd better be sure to wear body armor and training wheels young man! Last, when will you set aside some $$$ for a pension plan? Ohh? The toys are the pension plan...very clever...how come I didn't think of that? Let us know how the bike project pans out. Good weekend.

Hey George! I guess you tried the wide ones huh? Thanks for the insight. Magnaflow X-pipe and 2 1/2" pipe to Magnaflow mufflers goes on Tuesday. I'm to meet John, owner of Broadway Performance, Passaic NJ to discuss ECU tuning on his to be installed inshop dyno. If we put something together I will surely make sure we all are in on it at the right $$$.

Definitely! That MOPAR requires a 6-71 huffing out of the hood... Speaking of 6-71's, Last month my mechanic's 10 second 1983 blown and NO2 Mustang GT was on Speed Channels "Slips". You have a 401K? Hmmm... My retirement primarily consists of kissing my mother in law's *** to the very end. Very proud of ya Riski.

HAHA No mother in law here....But I love me a MILF! Trust me there are time I thought about reducing my % that I put in over company match, or pulling some out for another toy!
