Exclamation CANNOT APPLY PARKBRAKE-Message error :(

Hi everybody.Could you please help me figure it out what is wrong with my EPB???? I have a 2005 S type and the first time I got the error message "cannot apply parkbrake" I followed the procedure to calibrate the EPB (electronic park brake) by removing the battery and that worked. The second time the message showed up the car had been under heavy snow I do not know if the weather conditions had something to do with the electronics in this model, i reset the error following the same procedure. Today,by mistake I put the wrong key in the ignition ( I had another jag xj6) and I noticed the message "cannot apply parkbrake" showed up once more. I am thinking maybe putting the wrong key cause the car to lock the brakes, or might be the weather, or ??????????
Please give me your thoughts and advice

Mine was stuck on that the last time i drove it, but the battery has been dead for months on it. I just jumped it the other day and it will still there. What happened to me was it said Parkbrake Fault while driving. Then when i went to restart it, the ebrake was stuck on. So i gave it a ton of gas until it broke itself free, and im pretty sure it broke the unit as it makes a horrible humming sound now..

The key didn't have anything to do with the warning. You probably should do the battery disconnect again. The electronics for the Elec. Parking Brake was changed between 2004 and 2005. For some reason they are way more susceptible to this lock-up. Go figure!

Cheers,

Steve:
Can you explain the difference? I had not heard this before and it might clear some things up?
Thanks.

The differences were sort of nuanced, hard to notice. The main things the tech folks centered on was the system was "more robust", changed to the CAN Network and the new control module supported the new 7 digit fault codes introduced in 2005-2006. As you can see the circuit for 2005 was considerably more elaborate.

Cheers,

It moved to the CAN bus, too.

Thank you xjrguy for the information provided!!!!. Yesterday, I was ready to disconnect the battery to calibrate the EPB, but it was not longer necessary . The error message did not show up anymore. I am still wondering what was the reason for its failure and how it got fixed on its own.One thing I am sure now, is I am not taking the risk of getting the parking brake stuck, so before I turn the ignition off I also press down the EPB switch.

Only happened to me once in over 5 years of ownership, and it was a snow and ice situation.
