Hello all!
ive read a few posts on here about cars having a similar issue but non so far seem to match what my car is doing currently. My car will not shift out of parkand doesn’t light up the selected gear. I’ve manually moved it out of park into neutral to try to start it with no success. Any idea why this is happening? Battery alternator starter are all good. I tried another shift module to see if this was the issue but same result as before. The car will turn to the accessory position with headlights radio etc working but that Lana’s far as it will go. Thank you in advance for any advice. Car is a 2002 jaguar S type v6

 

Failed stoplight switch not sending the proper signal to the ECU perhaps? Do your rear stoplights illuminate when you step on the brake pedal?

 

I did replace the brake light switch recently just to be sure and yes they do illuminate

 

I am wondering if the bolts on the side of the transmission have come loose where the cable linkage attaches to the housing. As I recall it is the transmission that sends a signal to the ECU which indicates what gear has been selected.

 

1) Don't take any wooden nickels.

2) Look both ways before crossing the street.
