Default Changing Oil

I did a bit searching in the forums on how to change oil on an S-Type, and with all the posts I found they all explain how to change the oil but non of them show an illustration on the actual location of the oil cap that needs to be screwed off. Do I have to remove the entire undercarriage?

I am a novice DIY X-Type owner, and I am trying to do things for my brothers S-Type as well.

A bit of guidance on how to locate the drain plug on the S-Type would be greatly appreciated.

I already know how to do mine

thx in advanced

You need to take off the plastic sheild under the engine then all will be revealed.

An easy way to find out things like this is to buy the service parts from the jag dealer and while there ask the parts guy. The parts are reasonably affordable, too.

Would be well worth getting jtis, which is cheap and has all manner of info including what you wanted to know.

To remove underpan:
Raise car up in air ramps are easier than jacking. Use jackstands if jacking. block rear tires
Remove 5-10mm bolts
Remove 3-6mm bolts
Remove 2-10mm nuts
Wiggle underpan abit while pulling down, drain plug is right there.

Also, once you get the undertray off, if you are lying on your stomach at the front of the car looking underneath, the oil drain plug will be on the passenger side at the bottom of the oil pan, mounted horizontally. The first time I did an oil & filter change on our S-Type, the oil pan was strange-looking to me since I was accustomed to long, rectangular-shaped pans and this one is certainly not shaped like that.

Ours is a 2005 3.0. Never seen the 4.0 or 4.2 underneath so it may be different....
