I love the panoramic view from the fire tower up there. I also love the panoramic view from the top of Hanging Rock itself....
Have you hiked Stone Mountain State Park (about 45 minutes west of Hanging Rock)? Haven't been there since late October 2006, but my hiking buddy and I are planning to hike it/climb it again in late October 2012. We always go during the middle of the week so we have the trails and peaks to ourselves....
