Top Up Those Battery Cells....

Top Up Those Battery Cells....
Daily high temps are still reaching the mid-80s here, so yesterday morning I checked all six cells in our S-Type's original battery and found that they indeed needed water. Added a total of just under two ounces of water spread amongst all six cells. Hadn't checked them since early July....
We all know how fading batteries adversely affect these cars in sometimes very strange ways. I'm convinced that by keeping our S-Type's battery cells topped up, its May 2005 factory battery continues to hang tough. It will be interesting to see if this continues to be the case as we head into autumn and winter....
If your battery is more than a year old, check those cells. Especially in hot weather....

Good advice, Jon...
I subscribe to a number of trade publications for auto mechanics and,
a few months ago they did an extensive article on batteries. Sum
total? A well maintained non-sealed battery such as Jag uses, will
far exceed the life expectancy of a sealed battery: Provided, of course,
that the water is kept at a sufficient level. They stated that the
problem with sealed batteries is related to the fact that once the
electrolyte solution is even slightly depleted, the battery is toast.
Funny you mention this: This morning I checked mine and ended up
adding about 100cc total to the six cells, and, I had just filled it about
2 months ago. Up here in this temperate climate, 70 degrees is hot.
