Default Climate Control - 2001 Jaguar S Type

Interesting problem. Driver's side is blowing an excess amount of heat. No codes in climate control panel. Smelled hot electrical and seems to be the climate control panel.

I replaced the dual control valve under the hood two years ago as a preventative maintenance. I'm wondering if it has failed.

Testing the wiring to the dual control valve, center pin in constant 12 volts, the other two pins on either side complete a circuit to ground when you turn the system on/off. However, even plugged in, I do not hear the dual control valve clicking.

Thoughts?

Are there any DTCs logged in the Climate Control Module??
There are several temp sensors in located in the car interior to control temp and distribution. (EVAP sensors, outlet duct temp etc.)

I have seen sensors fail and cause issues.

You won't know until you ask the module WHY it is not responding correctly.

The problem turned out to be a bad DCCM valve which was stuck. The system overloaded the circuit board trying to close the valve and ended up taking out the circuit board too.

I bought a new DCCM valve and used climate control panel. I did everything for about $100. I am trying to get the manufacturer of the DCCM valve to warranty the part since it was just at two years, a Metrix brand part.

Ouch!

The Bosch ones are poor, too.

I got a bad "new" DCCV valve too, from autopartsway. Not thinking it was the valve, went way way down the wrong path. and spent many un-necessary $$$s.Stupid dealer threw it out so I never got my money back either.

Yep, same here. Looks like my DCCV valve (I recently installed) is stuck closed = NO heat.

It's a damn shame how lousy these DCCVs are, regardless of where you source them. I feel extremely fortunate that the factory DCCV in my 2005 S-Type continues to function normally and I wonder how long it will continue to work before it finally fails. I dread replacing it because that job is a major hassle for monster-sized hands like mine, and I fear that any new DCCV that I purchase will be of even lousier quality. I'm sure glad that my wife's 2006 XK8 does NOT have dual climate control....

Fully agree. I spent extra and went with Motorcraft YG355 (I think) DCCV. I'm hoping this is the LAST time I have to tackle this. I know Metrix is half the price of MC but I heard iffy feedback on these units and Amazon's price for MC genuine part is way cheaper than the Ford dealer and forget Jag brand...ugh!!!

If I don't sell my 2005 S-Type before my factory-original DCCV fails, I also plan to go with a Motorcraft replacement when the time eventually comes. I continue to do a white-paper-towel wipe / inspection of my DCCV every weekend and I never fail to sweet-talk it and tell it how perfect it is. I sure hope it keeps listening to me....

1st rule of climate control engineering: "All water valves leak" it is not a question of if but when, and whether it will leak internally (passing water when should be closed) or externally, dribbling away your coolant....

It is my belief (having done so, once) that replacing the DCCV on the S-type pre-emptively is a bad idea. I did that on the 03 when I had to renew the radiator, and the new one leaked within a week or two of fitment. Put the old one (which had not failed) back on while awaiting warranty replacement from Rock Auto and within 2 weeks IT was leaking. The replacement has held up the last 2 or 3 years. Things I don't remember and am too busy to look up just now: How long ago in time/miles this happened, and b) I distinctly recall one of the valves was from Four Seasons and one was from Motorcraft. I do not remember which one was crap....but I *think* it was the Four Seasons one. My apologies to their fine outfit if I recall incorrectly.

I bought the Motorcraft also. When I opened the Motorcraft box, the valve had the Bosch brand stamped on it.

JagV8 says the Bosch valves are also crap so don't be surprised if our so-called "Motorcraft" valves fail prematurely too. But so far, so good as mine has been working well for the past 1.5 yrs or so.

I bought the valve and all three OEM hoses that connect to it online (yours has 5 hoses, I think), getting the best possible prices I could find for each item. Then I had the entire rig installed by my local Jag dealership at their flat rate of $125 for one hour of labor.

IMHO, it was money well spent, as I know the job was done right. And I saved considerable $$ by buying the OEM parts online rather than from that dealership. The service department of the dealership seemed to have no problems with this arrangement.

The ones that came off multiple cars have been Motorcraft with Bosch as the maker. Still, they last a (random) while.

What's funny is that if you shop for this valve, the Bosch branded valve is more expensive than the Motorcraft branded valve. I don't know for sure but I'd think they're exactly the same valve except the Motorcraft comes in a box marked Motorcraft.

What are your thoughts/experience?
