climate controls - air direction controls
My 2008 S-type climate controls does not move the air from all top to any other setting. If I select the top air direction is shows that I have selected it but the air stays at top and floor. Eventually it will switch to all top.
How do the controls, is it electronic or vacuum.

The actuators and doors are pretty reliable, so not too many forum members have had to repair them.
The actuators are motor driven, and stay in their last commanded position when switched off. IIRC, the actuators also have an internal potentiometer to provide position feedback to the controller. One possibility is the external linkage has failed, between the actuator and door.
To test, make the cabin as quiet as possible. Close all doors and windows. Stereo off. Key to the run position but don’t start the engine. Manually select the fan speed as low as possible. Play with the controls for each door. You should hear a faint whir as the actuator runs, followed by a clunk or thud as the door reaches the end of travel. Compare with a known good position to make sure my idea works.
if the linkage has failed, I suspect you will hear the whir only, as the door is not responding. No idea how to access the actuator and linkage, but believe it’s buried in the dash. The training guides at JagRepair.com may have more details, but I’m on my phone and can’t view large PDF files.
These threads may be of some interest. They are for different positions, but the basic principles should be similar:
