"Only the diesel uses a Siemens PCM", LOL. No affordable tuner-flasher for me then.

Here are handhelds around $350, specifying Jaguar S-Type compat, CAN codes.

That does seem to be the case. For the non-diesels, Spires, Racing Green, Paramount etc can do some tuning but it's a bit unclear exactly what and not cheap. And you don't get to DIY.

For the diesels a few more can do it (apparently) but again not cheap and not DIY. Well, maybe there is a DIY option but I don't know of it. Being a Siemens it feels like there would be more chance to DIY.

I orderred two elm327's and I'll see which of their software will work on my linux laptop. Scantool from scantool.net is already an ubuntu package, so I just installed that. Scantool will work with any elm327 cabling/bluetooth to laptop. I downloaded both software programs, TOAD and odbpro, and odbpro works--it's based on scantool code and upgrades that to double-buffered 2mbps high speed to keep up with codes while car is running.

Now I'm off to threaten the TOAD guys, get theirs to run on linux before mail arrives or I'll have to compare their elm327 hardware with the other guy's using other guy software.

Ford Rotunda IDS(JLR v133) $1600, to read/write map for TOAD to optimize it, no way here, unless we have a club loaner, or, rental, LOL. Actually if the TOAD software could optimize the map file, that would be money, but, that's pie in the sky. TOAD guy is Mercedes and BMW mech.
