Smile Cold Start - "Lurch" Restricted Performance

I have a 2003 S-Type and on cool days the car jerks and runs on low power (no anti-lock brakes) and an error message Restricted Performance displays on the dash. Once the car warms up it runs perfect. Any ideas?

Thank you

Now the Gearbox Fault light is on. Another peculiar action is that often when the car is cold and until the engine is warm the volume on the radio does not work. In the afternoon, when I get back in the car the radio is usually working. What is involved in reparing the faulty gearbox ?... Thank You!

I'm sure one of the mods will move this to the S-type section, but multiple electrical faults are sometimes caused by water leaking into the trunk. Lift up the floor to access the battery and have a look.

How old is the battery? A failing battery can cause all sorts of problems. It's a well known fact.

Not that sort of cold!!

Hope it's a failing battery cos if it's something else it'll probably be far harder to track down.

Was the car running CL (closed loop) on the bank with that? Were there any codes?

Hi, I'm new and have similar problems. Starting yesterday the check engine light pops on when I driving to my work. Feel strong transmission failures, it's like "skating" (hight RPM and the car is slow moving). Today we'll take the codes to see if anyone can help me!!!

Check the battery for charge and/or weak cell(s). If the battery is more than four years old, it's likely slated for replacement anyway.

Thanks bfsgross, I will verify.
On Monday, accidentally left the lights on and draining the battery completely. Using a jump my car ignition cables and the next day (yesterday) started to make mistakes.

Think I can disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to reset the ecu help to resolve part of my problem?

Had me puzzled.... hose = house, i.e. when you're at home
OK.
