coolant expansion tank question

coolant expansion tank question
Good evening all,
Here is the short version of a long story:
6 months ago I was given a 2000 S-type (4.0) with bend valves because of a timing chain slip/break. Since then I have slowly torn down, fixed, and built back up the engine. I'm almost done and have one nagging question.
On the coolant expansion tank there are two nipples at the top. The one nearer the front of the car goes to the front of the engine (i think), just under the engine coolant fill. I do not know where the second one goes...Is this an overflow line? Or am I missing something? Should it be left unconnected?
As I said, the car has been apart for 6 months, and I never really worked on it before I dove into the engine repair. I cannot recall what went on this nipple. I cannot find any pics online, or on Alldata...
If it helps I can probably get some pictures tomorrow.
Thanks in advance for any help,
BR,
Mike

Great. That explains why I couldn't find a loose hose.
I have another question, I'm following the alldata service guide to bleeding the system, and step 7 says "Open the engine air bleed located on the engine crossover pipe." Can anyone help me locate this bleed? Is the crossover pipe the hard pipe that bolts to both heads and is just in front of the engine fill cap?
I am guessing the bleed should be fairly easy to get to, and near the top of the coolant system, but it is not jumping out at me.
Thanks,
Mike

its the plastic cap on top of the thermostat housing. Take this off, fill the reservoir till the coolant is even with the opeing then close. Take out the black bleed plug from the end of the hose I was talking about earlier, and with the engine running bleed air till coolant comes out and reseal. Fill reservoir to correct level
