Default Coolant Leak!

Hi im new to this website but I like it so far...

I bought a 2006 Jaguar this year and it has treated me well so far but I have had a coolant leak recently. Honestly it looks like an easy fix because I can see the whole coolant tank! I can also see where the coolant is going so I am almost sure there is a leak on the bottom of the tank
(then again I could be wrong)
So my question is...does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem myslef?? what to look for as far as where the leak may be etc.

Any feedback helps! I am 22 yr old fem and I dont really trust mechanics!

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum mizdereon. I might say that you will want to go to the new member subdirectory and properly introduce yourself. By doing so you will receive full access to the site.

I am including 2 links that will aid you in resolving your problem. Without full access you may not be able to view the pictures. BTW this is a very common problem among a few other things that you can read up in the "How To Guides".

Another common area to look if you have a coolant leak is the upper radiator hose. It's another common problem along with the coolant expansion tank.

The best way to be sure is to use a pressure tester or let the engine get to operating temperature so that the cooling system is pressurized and see where the leak is coming from. Autozone should have free rentals on a pressure tester.

In my experience, Don't assume it is the coolant tank alone. Had a Minor leak that after multiple trips to the dealer and multiple replacements of the tank and hoses and, and, and, I removed the engine cover and discovered that there was a split on the planned [it had to be planned as no engineer could be that stupid] seam of the housing behind the thermostat housing. Much cheaper and much easier to replace than the coolant tank

It helped that it was sub-zero so the steam was easy to see and trace.
