Default Cruise control

I took my 2000 3.0 for a 700 mile round trip.Going to 130, it still had plenty of beans to go and it rode sweetly.Unless I was being dumb in trying to set the cruise control which seemed to be very straightforward it wouldn't engage. A fuse or worse yet, a control module? Years and years ago when my DD was a 64E Type, club members would ask if it was a male or female? The logic being if it dripped oil on the ground, it was a male. So I have to think of my Stype as being a she

Has it been working reliably up till now?

If not, suspect the switch(es) - mine had dirty contacts but repeated attempts to use CC finally made them OK.

Does this suggest a rather high speed at which you were trying to engage cruise? IIRC, there is an upper limit in the 120 mph region above which cruise doesn't operate.

There are some special cases when the cruise control won't engage:

• The difference between the actual and
set speed is too great.
• When the vehicle reaches a maximum
speed of:
Manual 125 mph (200 km/h)
Auto 120 mph (192 km/h).
• The accelerator pedal is used to
accelerate beyond the set speed for
too long a period.

If any of these applied, maybe nothing is wrong.

I never tried to use the cruise control before as I have only had it about 5 months and this was really my first real roadtrip. I was cruising at 75-80 when I tried it out. Maybe I missed something as it seemed very straight forward to use. 130 was just some fun for a very brief time

Keep trying it at ordinary speeds (above 25 say) as if you have dirty contact(s) as I did it will take a while.

Did you see the on/off rocker switch on the side of the wheel? It’s not super obvious from the driver’s seat. Press on first, and then + or - on the face. IIRC, when you initially press on, you’ll get a “cruise control on” message on the dashboard.

Here is an image shamelessly stolen from eBay, showing the on/off rocker switch:

I feel like a dumb ****. There it was as you said. It didn't make sense that there wasn't an off/on switch like in other cars, but I kept thinking Jag streamlined the operation . It's like the hidden valet button that drove me crazy` Thank you, thank you

Hey not dumb at all because many cars don't have an on switch for cruise including my 2014 XJ. I just hit set and it turns on and sets the speed.
Funny as it has a separate off switch!

I am still trying to figure out how to set the clock. When I go to the menu, a clock function doesn't show up

As to time zone switching, we do not reset our clocks in Arizona. Same time zone all year 'round
