Agreed. I don't believe ANY flavor of S-Type will ever be considered particularly valuable. We own and keep ours due to the bang-for-the-buck it delivers as a highway cruiser....

 

Thanks for the info. On the v8 there is even less room to access the DCCV so will be doing a combination of from above , below and wheel arch.
Today the heater started working again once move after driving down a rough road in town. This has happened twice now. I felt the water pipes from the DCCV on start up expecting the smaller ones to warm up and the larger return one to be cooler..but they weren't. The larger pipe was far hotter and the two delivery pipes were luke warm. From this I decided the DCCV was working and the electric water pump , on the v8 for heater was not. The bumpy road has caused the water pump to work sending water the right way and the heater worked all day today on the Auto setting ie with the AC on. I have seen threads on the water pump and how the brushes wear down and work sporadically and had this happen on my Citroen ( long gone). So I will buy hopefully for less than $560 list a new pump and swap over. Will check wiring first.
The value of my early S type ? Well I was being tongue in cheek. My car being stamped 24 Mar 99 is exciting but I agree not valuable. It is fully serviced and looks near new to the point people ask me if it is !! And it still goes very well. AS long as I repair something each weekend.
The boot lights don't work. I checked power to them and both ends gave me a positive . Why.
So I took an easy option and connected them to the number plate wiring. I cannot work out how the big plunger switch works to operate the boot light, assuming it does, because it connects the leads when pressed ie closed not when released ie open, unless it is linked to a relay somewhere in a module. i wouldn't get another s for anything. it doesn't ride good. seats feel hard. my 8's better. oversized tauras.only good thing is it's easier to get in and out of with my bad leg

 

Sounds like yours was an old, worn out one. They're known for the excellent ride and suspension. There again I don't have a bad leg, either.

Our cars switch the ground to complete the circuit unlike most older cars that switch the positive off and on. So we have voltage all the time until the circuit is grounded which completes the circuit and turns the lights on.

I found the electrical guide and diagrams. Seems like the wiring goes via the boot module so, if everything else works / tests ok, is the module serviceable and does it determine trunk light on / off?.
