Default DCS Fault Light

I recently replaced the left bank valve cover gasket and seals due to oil leaking into the coil well. During the work I turned the ignition on to move the car. This acitivated the DCS and CATS fault lights because they were disconnected. After completing the work I can not reset the fault code warning lights. I disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes which didn't reset the lights (the radio stations weren't reset either). Do I need to disconnect the battery for a longer period?

If you take it to Advance Auto Parts or AutoZone they will reset it for free. Just ask them to check your codes and reset them. Or, you can buy one of the OBD II readers. I think you can get one for less than $100. On eBay you can probably get them dirt cheap.

Disconnecting the battery resets the codes (just those in the PCM, plus clears the PCM's knowledge of the car's characteristics) the way an ordinary OBD tool does, so AutoZone etc won't reset the problems. The generic tools talk only to the PCM but these codes are not stored there. I think you'll need a jag-specific dealer tool.

Yes, you are right. I have a scan tool and these codes do not show up and can not be erased. I was hoping there is a method to reset the fault display. I know that I tripped the codes when I turned on the ignition to move the car while the sensors were unplugged. I wonder how the fault code are stored? I have the left the battery diconnected for over 5 hours and even the preset radio stations are still there. Thanks jkb

Even a $2 or less part can have NV (non-volatile) memory.

I understand the rules have changed so new PCMs (2010+) will NOT erase codes when power is removed, and OBD tools will also NOT be able to erase them. Whether this will only be emission-related codes I don't know.
