Default Dead Battery 2000 S-Type

How do I recharge my model year Jaguar 2000 S-Type? I have a set of traditional charger cables and I have a Schumacher battery charger (up to 15 AMP). I have jumped many cars over the years, but I am having no luck with the Jaguar. I can access the battery in the trunk. I read some instructions online, but I might as well have been reading Latin. Does anyone have any simple to follow instructions for recharging the car's battery?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I'm a little confused by what you have described. It sounds like you're having trouble with a battery charger but then you talk about having "jumped many cars", which implies the use of jumper cables connected to the battery of another car. A little clarification will help us understand what you've got going on.

For the battery charger scenario: With many automatic chargers, they won't charge a fully depleted battery. Some chargers have an override or activate switch to start the charging process if the battery is completely dead. If indeed your battery is run way down, I'd suggest disconnecting the ground cable (in case something in the car is running the battery down) and then try charging it. If still no joy, you can remove the battery and take it to a shop that can charge and test it. However, if it's gone completely dead, the battery may be damaged and need to be replaced, even if you can get it to take a charge.

These cars are very finicky about battery condition. If the car has sat a long time, it may be best to plan for a new battery.

You might want to invest in an inexpensive digital multimeter (DMM) and measure the voltage across the battery terminals. Old batteries can have one or more dead cells, dropping 2 or more volts per dead cell, which could keep a Jag from starting.
