Default dead battery 2000 s type v6

I have a problem with the battery going dead every couple of days. I have traced it to the radio/cd player. I have pulled those fuses and the problem has stopped. The radio worked, until I pulled the fuses. I was told that this is common and it is probably a defective amplifier located between the two rear speakers on the rear deck drawing current when the ignition is off. Does this sound right ?

Thanks, Bruce

Bruce,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help section to S-Type section. This could be a 'feature' (!) of the S-Type and members here with the same model will be able to advise.

I'd say extremely uncommon. If you're sure you've traced it to a fuse that only covers what you say then you have a virtually unique problem, seems to me, but hey stuff happens.

Fair chance you can get used parts cheaply and swap them.

You sure you don't have a cd spinning in the tray? Used to happen on my daughters Volvo S80 - battery was running dry every so often - took the cd out and all was well.

put the fuses back in and unplug the rear amp, access via trunk, and see if you still have a drain, then you will know if it is the amp or not before spending money.

A few common battery drain problems are, lights in the boot staying on and the little flap not closing on the ignition barrel.
