Hi Jim, I believe I have downloaded and followed instructions to the letter however I get the following message when clicking the .exe file in the Jaguar folder:
"C:\Users\McKee\Desktop\JTIS21 S_Type\data\startup.txt contains an invalid path"
What I find confusing is why it is looking for a path thru "Users" when there is nothing there? Cheers Dan

Hi Dan (member Porcupine)

The file in your C:\jaguar folder that you need to run is jjtis.exe - the jjtis.exe file runs and opens the Jaguar Shop Repair software (JTIS manual).
You may have a problem with the jjtis.ini that is probably located in your C:\Users\McKee\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows folder.
Use the search term jjtis.ini and search your C drive - you may have multiple jjtis.ini files in different folders that can cause the software not to start.

Here are the first 5 lines in my jjtis.ini file:
[File]
StartFile=C:\JTIS21\data\startup.txt
DataPath=C:\JTIS21\data
DTCStartFile=DTCStart.PDF
Whatsnew=C:\JTIS21\data\whatsnew.sgm

Here is what is in my C:\JTIS21\data\startup.txt file:
<!DOCTYPE STARTUP PUBLIC "-//JAGUAR//JAGUAR STARTUP DTD//EN" [
<!ENTITY JAGPICT SYSTEM "GRAPHIC\XK8CONV.BMP" NDATA BMP >
]>
<startup><illus id="JAGPICT"></startup>

All the lines of code in the startup.txt loads a image of the jaguar logo (leaping cat) it will show when the software open its first viewing screen.

1st line is referring to the file in C:/Jaguar/Dtds folder (Startup.dtd) - it contains processing information about the image -
<!ELEMENT STARTUP - - (ILLUS) >
<!ELEMENT illus - - (#PCDATA)>
<!ATTLIST illus id ENTITY #REQUIRED>

I not trying to make you a programmer, but I thought I should explain how it works.

Somehow, the .ini file automatically installed "pointed" to my Users etc folders? I edited the file to read the same as your first five lines and lo and behold, I can now access all the files thru the .exe command. Thanks for for guidance.
Cheers Dan down under. PS: wonder why LHD has heater bleeder valve but not RHD? anyway I'll leave that question for another day.

I did not see the note here about the windows 8 msu and used the Win 7, seems to work, I had to do it through DOS! I can't believe I remembered DOS commands, geekdom, anyway it seems to be working, I'm a little hesitant to run the new software help and screw it up. And I had to make sure I ran the command prompt as admin.

Default Can't get it to work

My computer stalls when I run the setup.exe file....I cannot get it to load... The computer is a 64bit win 7.

I have a Mac if that is easier...

Does anyone have a simple .pdf of the manual???

Thanks,

Doug

It does, but maybe not for you. If you want help you'll need to say more!

Sunspit & JagV8
I just tried the mediafire JTIS archive downloads for S Type and also found that mediafire issue (blocking exe file type downloading) when I tried it with Internet explorer also with google chrome.

Update 7/7/2014 - problem with downloading these archive files on mediafire.com - instead use dropbox.com weblink

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tfzpw26tv...w97SJQCyGMtOLa

I also added this update to post 1.

That is the end. Jaguar switched to a subscription based repair access. Called TOPix. But for the S-Type not much changed from 2004 to 2008 when the car ended.

You can register and pay for TOPix if you want??
