A good working sdd setup is very valuable tool. I started with a used dell laptop with a fresh hard drive with windows7. Then bought version 131.1 from ebay and a mongoose pro clone from a place called obd2/365. Loaded it and started learning. I eventually was able to get a genuine drewtech mongoose pro and was comfortable now programming. There are other vci comm cables that can be used but not sure which ones. Member xalty is very up to date on possible other diagnostic products that can used also if he chimes in. I do know pathfinder is for late model cars and will not work on the s type

Jaguar SDD is for 05 (Jan 2004) onwards S-types.
Before that they use IDS that works but is not as good.
Both run on windows XP or in a vertual machine on later opperating systems. (The date has to reset each time the system is powered up.)
However, you can not do any re-mapping of the ecu with them, only factory settings, and very good diagnosis of problems.

What is it you need to do?

You can tell what model year your S-type is by looking at the 10th digit in your VIN number.
The model year is one year ahead of the actual build date.
All 05 model year facelift cars that can use the Jaguar SDD software were built from January 2004.

If your car was built in 2004 then it will be a facelift 05model year car with a '5' in the 10th digit.
However, if it was built in 2003 but not registered until 2004 then it will be a 04 model year car that only works with IDS and it will have a '4' in the 10th digit.

There are lots of other changes, even the body shell was changed for the facelift!!
