Default Disable One Touch/Automatic window?

I do not like the automatic/one touch operation of the driver's door window. Can this feature be disabled?

Lots of postings on how to make the one-touch feature work. I can't find anything on defeating it. I guess I'm the oddball ! Won't be the first time

2005 S-Type

Cheers and thanks

Unhook the battery for a bit. That destroys all the memory settings and should stop all the one touch window stuff.

It will also clear the OBD monitors - which need to be set for smog tests in some places so if that's you and soon ...

They need to set to flag many of the codes but also won't set if there are faults or some other things (wrong amount of fuel for some, etc).

May well not be an issue - they _should_ set again quite quickly but when they don't it can be a real pain (& normally means something is wrong or at least marginal).

The one touch only works if you remove your finger straight away. If you operate them as 'manual' (keeping your finger pressing down) they'll work as you want them to & it doesn't matter if the one touch is set up or not.

Ahhh. I'll experiment with my technique !

What I'd like to do is easily lower the window about one inch. That's all. I'm finding it difficult !

Far easier to drop the window further (1/2 way ?) & then raise it up.

On my '02, the driver's window switch has two positions to lower the window. Press it lightly and the motor stops immediately when released. Press the switch a TINY bit harder, you'll feel a subtle click, and the window goes all the way down even with the switch released. The tactile feel/click for this automatic function is not pronounced at all. If unaware, it would be easy to always go to this second position when mashing the button.

Not sure if the later models are like this.

Just the opposite on mine, it turns out. I was just out in the car practicing. I couldn't feel any detent; it must be too subtle for my decrepit, calloused fingers . Here's what I figured out.

If the button is lightly/partially pressed and released the window works automatically.

If the button is more firmly/fully pressed and released the window stops immediately.

The two different modes can be achieved with a very slight difference in finger motion. But in the end all I have to do is mash the button fully and I get what I want . It's just that the windows zoom so rapidly compared to my oldie Jag I gotta be really quick on the draw, so to speak !

The owner's manual describes it a bit differently: Press and release for automatic operation. Press and hold for regular operation. Turns out that isn't quite enough information

Thanks, everyone, for the replies

Cheers
DD

Yea the changes to the window settings in the 03 and later models is pretty sketchy. I think they thought it was an improvement but it's gotta be the most unpredictable window setup ever. I guess theres a technique which can be learned but I've yet to figure it. I have an s type with and without auto down and prefer the more manual switch from early models(00-02)
