Default Does anyone have coil overs for there S-type?

I'm trying to find coil over suspension for my S-type with CATS system. Does anyone have coilovers for sale? Or can someone tell me where I can get adjustable coilovers?

All I have found is the KW Verriant 3's. Also I would like to add negative camber to the rear of my car. Does anyone know how many degrees of negative camber the stock suspension will allow?

Nope, only KWs $3k coilovers are available.

For what purpose do you want adjustable 'coilovers' for exactly?

Arden offers a $2,500+ adjustable coilover, possibly rebadged kw.

KW offers a $3,000 adjustable coilover, but it is in fact a very high quality kit.

The aftermarket that supplies the $250-$2000 coilover industry isn't interested in providing anything for the s-type,

For a 'custom' solution, you can consider a 'ground control coilover kit' which can convert your factory bilstein or equivalent damper, into a threaded body adjustable damper.
You'll need to sort out custom spring length and rates based on some simple calculations, you'll have to build a few more pieces at the top mounts along the way... it's best left to a race shop specializing in suspension tuning / builds.

KW v3 are very durable, and extremely well built and tuned. They are in fact, a bargain for what you're getting really.
You want an adjustable coilover, KW is the way to go.
Holding out for a $1,600 taiwan copy of a japanese coilover for the S-Type to come to market, is a waste of time and effort. KW is 10x the coilover for not much more money.

Contact "Stance" They Started making a coil-over set for the Lincoln LS that should work on 1999 to 2003 S-Types. (NOT STRs and newer S-types)
I am not sure if they are still readily available.

Stance USA

MSRP is about $1400.

I just called them. They do have a coilover set up for the S-type due to building one for the Lincoln LS, but it is only for 2000-2002 LS.

The question is...... did the set up change in 2003? If so is it the same upper and lower mount as the S-type with the CATS system.

Oh BTW Hi everyone who reads this. I am a Lincoln LS member. Thought I would join up to see what you guys have going on over here on this side of the DEW98.

I was the one who was working with Stance-USA and got the first set that came from production last year. To date I still believe I might be the only who has has these coilovers.

There was no suspension change in the LS from 2000-2006. I'm not super familiar with the STR, but if your suspension is the same as the S type then these should fit both variations over here.

Thanks for offering.

The S-Type got major changes to suspension (and more) in 2002.5MY (2003 USA) and the STR has unique stuff among that. So... no idea if they'd be suitable.

Unless they were faulty, I don't know why anyone would want to get rid of the CATS system. Seems like the best of both worlds unless I missed something....

Hi bullschmidt (LOL!), and thank you for visiting to help. You have done a wonderful job on your Lincoln LS. The primary difference is the bottom mount of the front STR struts look like a horseshoe (upside down "U"). The design of the rear struts are the same for all S's. The non STR front struts have just a threaded bolt at the bottom that passes through the control arm, then chased with a nut. On STR's, on the bottom of the strut, a bolt goes horizontally through the control arm, through the left and right holes of the horseshoe (upside down "U"). Just picture a strut in vertical position with a upside down "U" welded to the bottom. Wonder if the strut guy can manufacture these?

If only the lower mount is the issue then you guys might be able to simply replace your front LCA's with LS arms as long as they bolt up the same.

The GR+'s are a tube design so the bottom mounts can completely screw off and separate from the rest of the coilover, so it is also possible that Stance could take some donor Jag LCA's and manufacturer a lower mount that would work.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is your CATS system in relation to the S type suspension?


These coilovers are designed for people who want to track their car. They are an inverted monotube design that is height and 15 way damping adjustable.

CATS is Jag's version of hydraulic shocks that stiffen.

^^This. It's adaptive. Cruising on the highway it's soft and smooth, but stiffens during agressive driving.

Due to the STR's 400 chp, the lower control arms was re-designed. it would be nice if the strut guy can adapt the lower mount.

Does anyone have a pic of the s-type control arm with the CAT system to compare to the lS? Let's see if we can compare. I'm starting to think that the R ball joints and mounting points on the frame are the same.

Also I have yet to find out how much negative camber I can get out of the stock suspension. Particularly the rear where I need it. Once again any info helps

Which engine type & MY? I ask because, for example, the STR is not the same as a 4.0 with CATS.

The LS won't be like the STR (which is unique) and probably isn't like any of the 03MY+ as the S-Type got redesigned suspension.

I expect both JTIS and JEPC have pics... have you looked?

Lastly, please add your car details as below.

I have a 03 style non r with a full "r" conversion 4.2l
