Default drivers side mirror replacement

Happy New Year to all. Some SOB took a bat to my drivers side rear view mirror on my 03 S type and tried to knock it off by bashing it forward. Luckily it folded foward and everything stll works exept the glass is cracked and the liquid leaked out Is it possible to replace the glass only and how do you get the thing appart? Thanks, Don

There is an ebay company that sells used mirror glass only. I needed one for my caddy, heated blinker dimmer etc... "bought it now" at $100.00 shipped. I will look for the company.

Removal don't quote me but I believe you use a flat screw driver and pry out the mirror glass, at least on the caddy, and glancing at ours it looks to be the same.

The ebayer I dealt with is flip-it-quick I just checked they have no Jaguar mirrors listed you may want to message them and see if they can locate one. Good luck.

Or I just did an ebay search, there are a few listed: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=Jag....c0.m270.l1313

Apply light pressure to the exterior mirror glass.
Detach the exterior mirror glass.
Apply light pressure to the inner edge of the exterior mirror glass.
Detach the exterior mirror glass.
Remove the exterior mirror glass.
Disconnect the electrical connectors.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

I'll try to get the pictograms for you. Depends if you have the electrochromic and want to retain them. Think I saw a bunch of eBay for $56, mostly right side but left side can be found. However, if you want the electrochromic auto-dim, heated whatever.....$200+ and dealer is the only option I found.

Available from ebay but not always exactly when you want it. Getting the glass back on I found so hard I had to remove the rear cover. Mine are electrochromic and powered and I didn't want to strip any of the plastic gears etc.

jagv8, I found this one on ebay from a wrecker for $125.00, I know its the whole he'll get mirror assembly, but at that price I don't believe that much cheaper.

Re the attached JTIS, it realy is that simple and easy. I've had mine out several times to tighten the frame screws. The first time you feel like your going to break the glass, just push at the window side and slide out at the outer edge.

How do you remove the rear carrier. I can't figure out how to get the outside unit apart. Thanks, Don

Rick - that looks like a pre-2003 mirror (squarer shape).

Don't know if it will be much help, but sometimes I feel more comfortable if I know what's on the back side of what I'm prying against. Here are pics of the one I changed out, (a 2003 electrochromic) and the box labels of the new piece.

Good pics. The last one shows the two short locating plastic bars at left and right sides. They clip over plastic parts on the rest of the door mirror body.

I'm told you can remove the rear covers (aka shells) using fingernails but I needed a knife edge to lever mine off.

It looks like you push out away from the car while pulling away from the mirror housing on the outer edge of the mirror. Is that right? how hard do you push and pull? What is snaping loose?
