Default DRL's in a 2005+ STR

Canada and several states in the U.S. mandate the use of DRL's and, in my STR (imported from California) that means HID at the front and rear tail-lights are on all the time.

Not only are HID headlamps kinda pricey, but the DRL law only requires illumination at the front of the car. So, the current arrangement is hard on the HID's and unnecessarily shortens the life of rear-lamp bulbs, especially since over 80% of my driving is done during the day.

So, was considering installing a pair of fog/LED DRL lights in the same recess area as the 2003 STR. Yes, I know that would partially block airflow to the oil coolers, but the lights are small (2.5 - 3" diameter), I only use synthetic oil and I don't drive the car in the extreme way that Jag has in mind when they worry about oil over-heating.

Would love to hear what forum members think about this. Below is an example of the lights I have in mind. I really do not want to spoil the Jag lines, but the 2003 STR's look pretty good to me!

Have you had the dealer enable DRLs? I believe it's just a computer setting.

Good point - the car was imported and delivered as it is now, so I assumed the lights were setup at that time by the import agency.

Surely the HID's would be involved in any case? What extra steps could the dealer take except maybe not turn on the tail lights?

DRLs in Canada do not involve the taillights.

They do on my 2004 S-Type! See 4-27 in Owners Manual.

How strange. Only the main beams illuminate on mine, despite what the owner's manual says. The 'main beam only' falls in line with Transport Canada regulations.

That's right - the DRL law says only the front end needs to be illuminated when the car is in motion during the day. But that would still involve HID's and all those adjustment mechanisms.

Maybe what I should do is get a custom set that really looks like a Jaguar is coming!
