Yesterday whilst doing a lot of town driving round glasgow, my engine light came on, the engine did not seem to performing as well but my gearbox vibration was getting worse. So i drove it home 25 miles at 50mph. Revving the engine in neutral sounds fine so im thinking its the gearbox making it perform badly also i was about to get serviced this week. Would a gearbox fault bring on the engine light?

Today i disconnected the battery for half an hour, but the engine light is still on. The engine sounds fine.

I already had bought a lead eml327 off ebay, so i got a working copy of scanmaster, when i try and connect it tells me 'cant find interface' so has anyone else had problems getting these cables to work, i have used them before on other cars and they are never bloody straightforward. On scanmaster website it says 'This software works ONLY with ScanTool.net hardware'. So i need to find another software. I have also tried easyobd2 & pcmscan (demo) and proscan 5.9.

Im aware my cable wont read gearbox codes but want to check the engine for codes anyway.

i have used these drivers for win7 CDM20600 for my vagcom cable and these seem to be the ones for this elm327 cable too. The difference between this and my ebay vagcom cable is it installed the drivers automatically, this elm327 cable does not install the drivers, i have to select the drivers to install from the list. So i select FTDI and then the com port drivers. So its installed at com port4 yet nothing recognises the cable.

I tried scanmaster, pcmscan (demo), easyodbii, proscan5.9.

no joy, it did not install them automatically and when i selected the drivers from a list, it installed them but them said it could not start the drivers
