Default electrical faults

hi all,
can any of you kind ladies / gentlemen help in my quest for information regarding my 2006 S type 2.7D Jaguar.

i have some questions i would like to ask regarding some steering wheel problem/issues i have just started to encounter. Firstly my horn stopped working..........could this be a fuse ?
secondly my controls for the audio system have stopped working on the steering wheel. still fully functional from the console itself.
thirdly, the cruise control has stopped working and i also have an airbag light on which flashes code 19.

this all happened within the course of a day .
i am hoping this has a quick fix but its a Jaguar so not much hope of that.

any help is greatfully appreciated
thanks in advance.

Alex.

Hello Alex and welcome ...

Yes, it's possible that a fuse (or fuses) have blown. Use the wiring diagrams to identify and test .,. but, you say that all these faults appeared "on the same day" ... is it possible they appeared at much the same time?

All your reported faults share a glaring commonality ... they all involve switchgear, wiring, and connectors at the steering wheel. Look for dislodged connector, snagged wiring etc. Inspect wiring diagrams to id individual connector pinouts. Are you comfortable tackling this DIY because the diagnosis and fix may be simpler than you first think. Let us know results.

Best wishes,
Ken

Some (all?) go via the "cassette" (a sort of slip ring so the steering wheel can rotate) so that may be where to look. Beware the driver air bag is in that area so if DIY then get workshop manual and heed its warnings.

Make sure you have a good, strong, fully-charged battery. Your symptoms are a bit odd for a weak battery, but hey! It's a diesel, maybe they react differently....

All classic symptoms of a bad clock spring. Reported dozens of times on this forum if you would search.

Simple to change and don't try to clean it. Just buy a new one and replace the old.

Nah, sorry, even my jaundiced eye can't blame the battery for this collection of faults.

Despite your implied pessimism about Jaguars Alex (tongue in cheek?), I do believe the diagnosis is staring you in the face - literally - every time you sit behind the wheel. You report that all your steering wheel located functions (horn, audio controls, cruise controls, and airbag - no more and no less) have all failed. While we do not yet have an answer to my earlier question, I believe it safe to assume they all failed simultaneously - even if you did not notice them all immediately.

My money, mortgage, and all I own (except 07-JAG of course) is riding on a common connection failure either within or immediately adjoining the steering column ... and the prime suspect has been named by JagV8. Please heed John's warnings before you proceed ... "unexpected airbag deployment" is no laughing matter.

Take care!
Ken

Id check fuses first, if not then sounds like clock spring to me also. Air bag fault/steering wheels controls dont work.
