engine knock after drive cycles cleared all monitors
hello to all, been following about a year and have found the forum very useful. Perhaps I can get some opinions ( 03 S Type 4.2, odo 163,000 although not sure if thats actual). 2nd owner, car in very good shape and was running perfectly. Service engine light had come on and had gotten gearbox default a time or two. Found out battery wasnt correct battery for car. purchased correct battery and started getting a host of issues. Went through the whole dccv issue and corrected it for a short period, transmission started surging, warmed it up in 4th and it was fine. Comes time for emissions and replaced upstream sensor on bank 1 and downstream sensor on bank 2 and started getting an assortment of codes. so i put the car through all the drive cycles and eventually got the P1111, within 15 miles of getting the code the car developed a knock around number one cylinder likin to a rod knock. Past emissions next day, still has P1111 code and no other codes showing but havn't been able to figure out issue. Pulled plugs,no oil small amount of carbon, switched coils around still knock front right valve cover. cleaned MAF am contimplating dropping cat to see if its clogged but am believing it to be timing belt tensioner. Have run live data on it 3 times but just at idle for no more than 15 minutes knock is so bad, fuel systems CL two times OL once but all fuel trims seem to be relavent each time and not really sure how dependable for such a short time at idle. Am i missing something? All advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks
Line breaks DO help, as many of us will not even bother to try to read through lenghty un-formatted text... It is tiresome.
That said, you might want to solicit a Carfax report from some generous forum member who has a subscription; it has been done in the past. Motor vehicle departments and many dealers regularly upload data on a given VIN into their system and it could be enlightening.
Also, If the car has 163K on the odo and the transmission fluid has not been changed, you are at more than twice the suggested service interval on your ZF unit; that may be contributing to your issues...

1. It is always prudent to write down codes to clearing them; failure to do this can someday bite you on the backside.
2. Transmission service video is here:
Use only genuine Jaguar ATF, ZF Lifeguard 6, or Mercon SP and not generic multi-application ATF... there is lots of discussion on the forum. Do some research...
