Engine Problem?

I posted this in the S-Type section, but I'm fairly certain this is not an S-Type specific problem, so I will post in here as well hoping to get some help.
Sorry if this "double post" angers anyone, just trying to get as many responses as possible. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
3 days ago, while driving, I pulled into a parking spot and I felt the car shudder a little bit. Not really knowing what the problem might be I had the oil changed (500 miles before 3000). Now whenever my car idles, (at a stoplight or when parked) the car will idle fine, then shudder once or twice, and then idle fine again... before shuddering once or twice again (the revs seem to dip a bit each shudder).
Then today while stopped at a stoplight the car was idling fine, and then started shuddering and finally the engine died. It started up fine and drives perfectly normal when in motion. However, when I parked at home I let it sit idling for a bit and it died again. (The check engine light has come on)
Sorry for the long-winded story, but I truly am clueless when it comes to the innerworkings of engines and the like and would LOVE if anyone can give me some information on what might be going on.
Thank you all so much for any help you can give.
Also, any info on how much this issue would cost to repair would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thank you again!
Aaron
