I'm sure we'll hear more. The OP seems to come and go and is a man of few words. He did ask for instructions on how to do his own oil change in early July, and the specific mention was made of the 6.5qt. capacity.

Something doesn't add up.

Well I read my post a couple times man it seems like I came off the wrong way. But it's a great way to test the motor to see if he seized it from lack of lubication. The best way though it's turning the crank manually with a breaker bar on the crank bolt.

Mafioso, I thought the response was to the point and nothing more. If our politicians could only state things that way we would all be better off.

I over estimated the oil consumption.. just checked it again it is two qts extra, so it needed three only.. i know it still is low oil. None of the lights came on at the time of the incident. I just checked the fuses and battery and they are all fine. Could this be a fuel pump problem because the guy whom i bought it from said that he had to replace fuel pump about year and half ago. If it's a spark plug related problem, then shouldn't it make that continuous clack noise that just won't wanna start. but in this case it just one clack and done. I don't guys, i really don't wanna replace the engine or at least i hope i won't have to.. thanks again for all your help, really appreciate it.

My amateur advise... It probably is something electrical, a short or something. Take Mafioso's advise and test it to see if it is seized. The manual method would be my choice. With the plugs out to make it easier to turn.. If the motor turns, then it is off to trace and test all the electrical circuits (starter, ignition, etc). At that point my amateur butt would be off to make an appointment with a mechanic.

Oh, yea, didn't the earlier 4.0 have timing chain issues.... Hmmmmm????????

So, I took the car to a mechanic and he did exactly what Mafiasso told me. He tried to turn it manually, but Engine did not turn at all. He is saying that engine is locked. I am not sure what that means. I am thinking timing chain may be? and if it is that, then is the engine gone or is there a possibility of fixing it?

LOL, I am sorry but that is why their called idiot lights. Isn't checking the oil something you should do before buying a used car?
He needs a no maintain Japanese car not a Jag. If you love it you check the oil every couple weeks anyway.

It sounds like it locked or something like that. Then I remembered that my engine light came on day before that, so I checked my oil and it was a bit low. So I put more oil in and tried again, but it still make that click noise once and thats it. My radio and everything else runs fine, so it might not be battery problem. But I am not sure, so has anybody gone through this before or can you suggest something that can help me out? Thanks you very much and any help appreciated.
Not sure if this helps but I had a similar problem with my 1993 XJ40 Sovereign 4.0lt. After driving 20 miles or so the engine would suddenly die (sometimes at 70mph!) and would be dead for at least half an hour. I finally traced it to a crankshaft sensor that was getting hot and failing; once it cooled down the car would start and run but stop again as soon as it got hot. if poured cold water over it the car would restart and run enough to get me home. Once I changed it everything was fine but I have to say that when it was messing about, the engine would turn over but not start. Your problem seems slightly different and it is an S type but it might be worth a check. Good luck

The OP reported that the per a professional mechanic, the engine was locked up and would not rotate when a breaker bar was used on the crankshaft bolt. My guess is that the timing chain let go from non-updated original tensioners and locked things up...
