Default Engine upgrade question

I was thinking about upgrading my engine at some point down the road and was wondering if anybody knows if I would need to upgrade my transmission as well. I currently have a 2000 s-type with a 3.0 and wanted to upgrade to the 4.2 supercharged, would my current transmission be able to fit with this engine our would I need a new one? Thanks

New one... Probably a lot of new stuff since they made many updates to the overall car for the US 2003 model year...The same year as the R was introduced.

As for the transmission, specifically.. The 2000 to 2002 cars have a Ford 5R55 trans and the 03 and up cars have the ZF 6HP26....

I bet many of the control modules are different as well... Probably be cheaper to just buy a S Type R...

Not worth attempting for many many reasons. You'd need engine+tranny+major rebuilds of other things, changing endless modules as well. Just sell current car & buy an STR.

Are you at Ft Campbell? Just keep the 3.0 stock and save for the STR. Only other thing would be nitrous, but I am never a fan of nitrous on stock cars.

Croppy, the 3.0 runs with 10.5:1 compression (a high compression engine). A S/C will throw her in to detonation/loss of power/bust pistons land. Mike is on the "money"...an STR is for you.
