Default Failed FR Indicator

So on my '03 S-Type R, the front passenger side blinker (the one housed in the headlight) has gone out. The first time I simply assumed that the bulb was burnt out so I replaced it. The next day, I was driving and it went out again. I started thinking something was wrong but thought maybe I just got a whack bulb. So I replaced it again. This one lasted about a day and a half when it went out yet again.

Has anyone experienced anything like this in the past? I checked the fuse and that is okay so now am thinking there must be some type of short along the way. Any suggestions on where to begin looking or could it be something else?

Thanks guys!

The socket is usually BURNT and not making contact with the wire on the bulb.

Clean the melted plastic from the connector.

What should I use to clean it? Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol or is that a bad idea?

Scratch that, I found some electrical contact cleaner. I'll try this out in the morning and post the results.

Just had and corrected this issue on my 04STR. The tab that is burnt is probably going to have a burn/melted spot where the bulb contact wire sits on the metal contact tab in the socket.
use a little fine sand paper to clean it up a bit and add a little tension by bending the contact tab in just a little. Apply some dielectric grease to it to keep any corrosion at bay then re-insert the bulb, shouldn't have anymore problems.

Problem solved! One of the metal connectors on the socket was covered in black specs, I wiped some of it off and looked a little closer and it turned out that it had actually burnt a hole through one of the metal connectors. Picked up a new socket, replaced it, and whala!

Thanks for the help guys!

Can I ask what you paid for the socket?

Can you tell us where you got it?

I wanted to replace one of my signal light sockets but Jaguar wanted over $50 so I fixed it myself but I would have preferred to replace it.

I picked it up at the Jaguar dealership so it ended up costing me $34.97 plus tax. More than I was hoping but what can you do. If anyone is interested, the part number is XR855196.
