I am having trouble locating the intermotor sensor for regulating the engine fan speed OEM part # XR813484. I ordered a manual on line pdf format it was utterly useless the links didn't work, so here I am hoping for some help from ya'll. Thanks for this opportunity. This sensor also helps with the fan speed when ideling which in turn keeps the air conditioner cooling at a stop.

Reason: Add Model & Year
Fan speed sensor? Never heard that sensor called by that name. XR813484 is the Cylinder Head Temperature sensor, applicable only to the early V6 models.
My experience at this link. See the last post for a chart to verify accuracy. One of the new ones I had purchased was inaccurate, bad from stock.
My local Jaguar dealer had one in stock. I also ordered one online. Can't remember if that was eBay or elsewhere, but I found several sources just now searching with that part number.
Rock Auto is a really great source for Jaguar parts at very reasonable prices, many are after market without the cat stamp on them but otherwise identical fit. I have the part I just need to figure out exactly where it goes, not as easy to locate as one might think, thus the failed manual purchase. Thanks
Charcarson: It is a very good idea to include the model year, engine type and location in your posts in order to eliminate guess work on the part of those who are attempting to assist you. You can add these items in your user profile,,,
If so, that is only applicable for the ‘99-02 V6 models.
If your car is '99-02, and not an ‘05, the sensor is located in the US driver’s side cylinder head, between the middle and aft spark plugs.
Yes Sir that is it ,they said it was for my car oh well will be sending it back. I still have the issue of not getting cool air at an idle or stop from A/C . Hummmmm. Next solution.

Ah, the plot thickens...
One question, who is this mysterious "they"? If asked to use it in a sentence, I'd reply, "They don't know what they're talking about." First, they give you a wrong part number for your car. Even if they gave you the correct number for an '05, that sensor has virtually nothing to do with controlling the AC system. It drives the temperature gauge, and feeds engine temperature info to the engine computer. Under an actual overheat condition, with the gauge displaying well above center, the AC is commanded off. But if your temp gauge is staying put in the middle, this sensor is fine.
Be aware the dashboard temperature gauge is deliberately misleading, as detailed at the following link, so don't rely on it completely. This is from the XK forum, but the general principle is the same on the S-Type:
For a little light reading, here's my verbose, long-winded troubleshooting guide for the S-Type heating and cooling system. Lots to digest, but if you work through it in order, without skipping around, you should find exactly what is wrong:
You were concerned about the electric fan operation. Details are in the guide. When AC is commanded on, a separate signal (not related to engine temperature) commands the fan to run. If the fan wasn't running at all, you'd also have an engine overheat at low speed due to low ram airflow. No mention of overheating, just inadequate AC performance. I'm willing to bet your fan (and related commands) is just fine.
