Default Flasher unit location

Hello.

Can someone please tell me where I can find the flasher module on my 2004 Jag s-type? My front LH indicator is not working. I have changed both the lamp and the associated fuse, and indicator is still not working.

No such critter. The "flashing" of the front turn signals is controlled by the Front Electronic Module.

Wiring diagrams here, see figure 08.1 or .2:

The lights are controlled differently than most cars. Power is supplied to the positive side. The control module switches the ground. Most cars are the other way round.

Have you checked for power at the center contact of the wayward light?

Also, exactly which light is inop? Per the wiring diagram, the headlight assembly contains one dual-filament bulb and one single-filament bulb. A third single-filament bulb is all by itself and called a repeater. I think this is located aft of the front wheel. Each of these bulbs has a separate power supply.

Thank you very much kr98664 for your reply. I must admit that, when speaking of electronics and wiring etc., it's like you're quoting steps to performing neuro-surgery :-) The offending lamp is my RH front indicator. I did replace the lamp. It does light up when my headlights are on, but no longer flashes, hence why I was thinking perhaps I need to also replace the flasher module. It all worked as expected prior to my getting a warning message on the DIC couple days ago.

Again my thanks for taking the time to reply and make suggestions. Have a great day.

Are you still getting a warning message?

Try swapping the new bulb with the known-good one from the opposite side. See if the fault follows the new bulb or stays in the same location.

Check the bulb holder, they are notorious for burning the contacts inside, you may need to clean them up, I have a bit of aluminium foil in mine to help make a better contact.

I tried your suggestion and no the fault did not follow. Thinking I may bite the bullet and take it in to a dealership nearby. Thank you anyway. Have a great day.

Checked it, and the holder is in excellent condition. The lamp works when headlights are on, it just doesn't flash, and I have the failure warning on the DIC. Thanks very much for the suggestion. Have a good day.

This is a very unusual fault. Please keep us posted with what the dealership finds. It's not very common for a computer module to fail. Most faults are typically external, such as wiring problems, etc.

Just to confirm, when you swapped the suspect (new) bulb to the good side, you had also installed the known-good bulb from the good side into the malfunctioning side? I want to make sure we haven't overlooked any simple things.

Have you checked the side flasher lamp in the wing/fender?
This will cause a fault just like the front and back lamps do.

I finally have an update after weeks of working with a local Jag enthusiast to try and source the origin of my issue. All of my front turn signals eventually failed in sequence. His suggestion was perhaps a grounding issue since ALL of my front turn signals failed within days of each other.

I bit the bullet and took my car in to the dealer for service. They determined that there was a ground short at the Front Electronics Control Module. Had to wait another week before the module was sourced from the UK (I'm in Canada). My sphincter was violated to the tune of $1600+taxes CAD. All is now functioning.

I did learn along the way that corroded grounding points are common in older models, and are frequently a source of problems that can be self repaired by more experienced and technically savvy enthusiasts.

Thanks to kr98664 and M-e-l-l-o-w for trying to help me with this. Hopefully my lesson learned can save someone else the expense and inconvenience that I incurred.

Hi, could you help. left side flasher is loose, but works. How can I replace it. It seems like a plastic clip is broken. Where can I find a repair manual for 2005 Jag XK8 convertible. Regards. Pat

Hi, Hazmat:

A couple of points:

1. It is really not a good idea to append your inquiry to the end of a nearly two year old archival thread,
2, Your question would be best answered in the X100/XK8 forum...
