Default Front harness, front left turn lamps

Hello all,

Has anyone previously troubleshot the same electrical splice?

I have pinpoint tested FH40 pin 9 and have confirmed lack of 12VDC to power the turn signal in the head lamp and fender, bumper marker and clear parking lamp. I believe the front harness holds this splice somewhere behind the left fog lamp or near the radiator. Can I find it through the left hand wheel well liner or from below the radiator and bumper? Has anyone been here before?

Thanks

No sorry never been to this particular spot before. Just curious, have you checked at FH53-2? Best way is start following the harness, either from FH53-2 ( at Primary Junction Box ), or from FH40.

If I remember correctly, I think majority of the front harness runs through the engine compartment, not so much in fender. You will need to follow each lights wiring to a central point, but you may need to disassemble part of the harness to find the splice.

Default Solved; Front harness, front left turn lamps

Found the splice. It is behind the LH fog lamp, heading upward to the wheel arch. Several damaged wires and they are metric, so the 18 gauge strippers aren't quite right. Attached pictures are of the splice and where in the harness to look.

Any ideas how the damage occurred?

It is a good question for which I was unable to identify a cause. The area with damage was almost entirely in the whip that exited the main harness to bumper harness plug connector. Points of insulation had been damaged by being nicked or pinched long ago and the conductors at these points have corroded and weakened. While some appeared to be chaffed where they exited the corrugated harness cover none of the others appeared to be in sections able to reach any other items to touch much less be able to be pinched. In fact, a couple of the most minor abrasions were within the main harness itself. Still bound as from the factory. There wasn't any indicators of previous body damage, so I cannot really figure why anybody would have had reason to move the wiring at all and I opened the main harness myself, but it is what it is I guess. Either way, I need to get another pair of strippers that contain a 20 gauge slot and crimp in some new sections of wire. I will then restore the harness covering and I will be ready for my inspection sticker that expired yesterday.
