Default Front license plate assembly

The ONLY downside I've seen so far in moving to Ontario is the requirement for a front license plate, but that's a small price to pay compared to all the other benefits.

I've post a wanted ad

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/p...-s-type-83689/

looking for the hardware to mount the front plate but does anyone have sage advice on how to attach it without damaging the car or maybe a better way of going about it?

Mikey, these pictures are from Joyces Jag. Since it has been a southern vehicle all its life no front plate needed. It has been sitting in the trunk since the vehicle was new. Its a 2005 but you'll get the idea.

At first I thought maybe 3M double sided automotive tape to secure the bracket to the front bumper, I don't think so now. It looks like the only and safest way to attatch is with screws unfortunately.

Have a look:

The way the front license bracket is mounted is with rivets.

The Jag part number for the rivets is: XR813185 - you need 3 and they go through the bumper cover.

In using Rick's picture - I marked the rivet locations and marked "bottom" as well.

Regular 3/8" rivets won't work - they aren't long enough and forget screws - they won't hold unless you drop the entire front bumper cover and secure the bracket with a nut/bolt.

I remember some discussion several months ago (perhaps in the XK8 section) about several owners using zip-ties to secure a front license plate without doing any bumper drilling....

Mike
I would inquire at the local crappy tire or other such place before you stick rivets or screws into that virgin bumper. You can't be the 1st person to move here & have to attach a front plate. And - to be on the safe side until you have an answer, put the plate on the inside of the front window to keep the OPP off your case. And "bienvenue" to the good place

I also recall mention of retractable front number plate carriers which avoid having to drill on any visible part of the front bumper.

Not legal in the UK so I didn't commit the details to memory!

Thanks everybody.

I had imagined a much more complex installation and not a relatively simple molded plastic plate. The thought of puncturing the front bumper cover with rivets, bolts or any other fastener does NOT appeal to me, so I will take DougB's advice and check at Crappy Tire for non-invasive alternatives.

Speaking of that fine institution, I was at our local store just a few days ago getting a 20lb. propane tank filled for the BBQ. The Jag was parked right next to the filling stand. I had left the trunk lid open as the attendant was ready to fill it as soon as I pulled up. As the lad went about his business, a distinguished looking gent strolls past the car, looks at us, shakes his head and closes my trunk, rather forcefully. As the young guy and I had stopped talking and just stared at this guy, I suppose he felt obliged to explain- 'I've told my wife a hundred times to close the trunk and she still leaves it wide open anyway' he says, glancing back at the car. Now seeing the Quebec license plate, he looks back at us and asks the obvious- 'Ummmm, would this be yours?'.

Turns out his wife has a 2003 V6, the same colour as mine. Even stranger is that they live directly across the street from the hotel where my avatar picture was taken 2 1/2 years ago on our first visit to Perth.

I moved to B.C. which also has front plates. I ordered a bracket from Jag and when considering drilling holes in my perfect front end, could not do it. Took it to a shop and they said "Don't do it", keep the front plate in the trunk and if ever pulled over, tell them that I have an appointment to have it installed next week. Has worked fine for 2 years now.
