Front Parking Aid, 2002.5 STR
Front bumper is coming off for a respray and getting a bit sick of the wife scratching it so looking at retro fitting genuine front parking aid kit if I could find one or gathering up all parts required - seems to be various bits on ebay.
Have fitting instructions for a kit that was around (XR8 49744) which shows 3 looms (harnesses) a relay, module, speaker etc and some type of switch which came with this kit that curiously mounts on the gear select console (probably to turn it on or off).
The first of the three loom sits behind front bumper (for sensors) which then attaches to an engine bay loom that is pushed through the firewall to plug into the module (of which the module is supposed to be installed behind the LHS foot well plastic along with the relay).
Not sure if this was the same layout/procedure for factory installed front parking aid. One seller told me car may be prewired and all I might need would be to find plug for module in LHS of boot and to just attach sensors and bumper loom.
Anyone attempt this with genuine kit?
Cheers

It looks complicated. How much will it cost?
The 2003 and up cars came standard with the rear park sensors and the front ones were optional. It does not look like the fronts are prewired if not ordered.
I ask because you can get an aftermarket setup pretty cheaply now a days.
The factory front park sensors have a switch in the overhead console so the kit sounds like it will not be exactly as the factory installed option anyway?
I will say with front and rear park sensors I at first considered them just extra stuff. But the STR is kind of low and the front bumper gets scraped on parking curbs if you are not careful. Now I would not trade them for anything and look forward to having a rear park camera too.

This kit seems to be unavailable or difficult to find now with some remote sites listing it at around $800! I suspect I may need to source most of these parts seperately which makes it very difficult to retrofit as there are three looms, relay and power source etc. Also odd that this kit had a switch that seemed to fit on the gear console..The overhead made more sense.
You are right about front and rear sensors on this car, they are absolutely obligatory! I did fit the factory ones on the rear on mine and would be lost without them! Its impossible to judge the rear.
Do you have an aftermarket set on the front or is it the factory set up?

After some more research:
This Jaguar kit was oviously designed as a retrofit probably at dealer level, prior to the latter year models which depending on markets, came with both front and rear factory fitted with just the one module controling both ends and with the included overhead/roof console "P" button being able to switch the front ones off.
So this would benefit cars with the rear aid Jaguar module (which you can retrofit as well) but of course be seperate in operation, with the "P" switch to be mounted nest to the gear selector after drilling a hole.
This kit does not have any Jaguar bits from what I can gather and has no parts interchangeable with the factory fitted front/rear combined system, that is looms are different, sensors are different etc. It is essentially a high quality aftermarket kit with a 'Cobra' module and a 'Ford' stamped female connecter where the centre console 'P' switch connects to. Also it is the same an X Type kit that was offered for that model (except the X Type kit is missing the 'link lead' but could be easily adapted to fit).
So question is why would you bother buying these kits (at least $400US) when you could source a quality aftermarket one for around 60 pounds. Photos attached.
You would need to compromise on a 'non genuine' switch on the aftermarket kits.
I have not been able to work out what this genuine Jaguar kit P rocker switch looks like but I do assume it would be a Ford part.
