Hello all..Merry Christmas....I posted several post several weeks ago about a gearbox fault issue where my 2005 4.2L V8 S-Type was in limp mode and wouldn't drive past 10mph I believe and the gearbox fault light was constantly on wouldn't go off, norri suggested I buy a code reader as I don't have time to go get the codes read. I went ahead and purchased it and it arrived yesterday..plugged it into my s-type this morning read the codes and no codes came up so I cleared it and the gearbox fault light went away. I restarted the car, light still gone so I backed out my driveway and put it in Drive and when I seen the car take off I was screaming WOOOHOOOOO for quite some time ...I drove it for about 10 miles and light never came back on, left it on for about 30 minutes +and light still never came back. I'm going to go take it out for a nice long ride after I post this post!

The problem with the gearbox fault is still there, just not yet detected by the systems. My guess is that you have a stretched cable and misaligned shifter gate.

 

I'm sure the issue with the gearbox fault on my car is electrical because right after a automatic car wash the light came on.

 

The first (and subsequently last) time I ran the STR through a car wash (sometime over the summer), I also got a gearbox fault... it hasn't happened to me since.

 

Perhaps it should have said "carwash fault"?
