S type 2005 2.7td

Hi, my car will not start, I get the error message gearbox fault, if I play around with the gear lever, it starts reluctantly.
I guess there must be a switch when in park which is not operating properly, if this is so is the switch inside the gearbox?

Hope someone can advise.

Thanks
Gil

It could be the j-gate assembly or at the gearbox - the latter tends to be caused by a loose or missing bolt(s). The shifter cable is meant to be bolted at the trans side - one or both can come loose / fall out and cause what you report.
