Default Good afternoon my name is Lanell Merritt.

I recently purchased a 2005 jaguar s-type the check engine light was on when I purchased it and the previous owner stated it was a misfire on one of the cylinders. A couple days ago the car began running very rough. So I took it in to the dealership to have a diagnostic done and was told that cylinders 1 3 5 7 were not firing I have replace all coils on that side as well as all spark plugs the vehicle has 103000 miles and is reading the following codes
P0300 RANDOM MISFIRE
P0301 CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE
P0303 CYLINDER 3 MISFIRE
P0305 CYLINDER 5 MISFIRE
P0307 CYLINDER 7 MISFIRE
P1313 MISFIRE RATE CATALYST DAMAGE FAULT BANK 1
P1316 MISFIRE RATE EXCEEDS EMISSIONS
P1000 OLD SYSTEMS READINESS TEST NOT COMPLETE
P1647 LINEAR 02 SENSOR CONTROL CHIP BANK 2
P0201 INJECTOR CIRCUIT OPEN CYLINDER 1
P0203 SAME CYLINDER 3
P0205 SAME CYLINDER 5
P0207 SAME CYLINDER 7

Maybe start by changing the O2 sensor. Fuelling is wrong if that's faulty.

Hello Lanell,

I think those last four codes (open injector circuit 1, 3, 5, & 7) point to a common problem with the wiring harness on that side of the engine.

I'd suggest starting with a close visual inspection of the wire harness to those injectors. A wiring problem affecting those four injectors could easily cause all the other codes.

Keep in mind the other misfire codes don't necessarily mean those particular spark plugs didn't fire. A better label, instead of "misfire", would have been "low power output" for the listed cylinder(s). I don't care to discuss how I learned this, other than to say it was the hard (read: expensive) way. <G>

You didn't mention which engine you have, but since you mentioned #7 cylinder, I'd say we can safely rule out the V6. Assuming you've got the V8, is it supercharged or normally aspirated?

On the supercharged version, the harness splits in two to feed power to the left and right banks. Each side even has another connector that could knock out 4 injectors if loose.

On the normally aspirated version, all 8 injectors receive power via one splice, so it would be highly unlikely for only half of the connections to go bad without affecting the other side.

See pages 51 and 67 of this PDF wiring diagram:

Default misfires

I personally went through a similar experience with my str. It just started idling like carp immediately. So after poking around.. the o rings that seal the spark plug well we're brittle and had failed. There was oil on every coil pack I pulled. The jag dealer quoted me 950 to do the repairs. I ordered two valve cover gaskets and 8 spark plug seals and repaired it my self for 200 cleaned up all my spark plugs changed the oil and good as new. Takes about 3 hours. Mine was throwing codes like crazy even low fuel psi... crazy. Hope this he lol helps. Hmu if you need more info.
