Head question
I have a 2007 STR if I took the head off of a 2006 4.2 n/a can i use it?? it’s the same engine. what if i swapped cams from the str to the NA as well. is this compatible in anyway ?? is there any difference with valve clearance anything of the sort ?? please help a beautiful jag just hit my junkyard and i need a new head
The parts catalogue from Barratt's can be helpful in sorting out your questions. It appears that the heads are the same between the NA and SC variants, but the camshafts will need to be swapped over, together with a sensor bracket, etc. Some of the particulars on these cylinder heads are actually tied to the engine number as opposed to the chassis number, so proceed with caution.
The link for the free download of SNG Barratt's catalogue is in the "stickies" at the top of the S-type forum page.

I am about 80% sure that they are the same.
Differences might be the valve spring rates. (You can look up the valvle spring P/Ns to be sure and/or someone else might look them up for you.
Search the forum for 4.2L camshafts. There is a thread with P/Ns and a comparison for all the different camshafts used on the engines. If I recall, the camshafts are the same, but there might be timing differences due to VVT. (Angle they cut the flats on the camshafts for timing the engine.) But a 2007 STR should have VVT. (Ping Count Iblis - He should know.)
I would do further research first regarding differennces before going down the path of swapping the camshafts.
1. There will be very minor differences in the camshaft bearing diameters, that might affect wear/longevity due to swapping them You may have to line bore the bearings. Others have swapped cams, but I have never read how long they last of it they had complications.
2. Once you swap cams, you have to measure the cam to lifter/tapped clearances and adjust the clearances. Not a fun task. for 32 lobes.

There is one of the threads.
You can message Count Iblis and/or Cambo. They whould be able to answer in more detail regarding cam swaps.
